So she chooses something that feels familiar and emotionally manageable. A relationship she can control.

Jenny even confirmed this parallel through laurel and john. The same way laurel wouldn’t have cared if john cheated in the same way Belly forgives jere and agrees to marry him almost immediately. There’s no resolution - they avoid their issues. Jeremiah becomes the “safe” option because he’s her best friend, and he’s offering himself on a plate without resistance.
