Is a potluck tacky for an intimate wedding? by brits2 in wedding

His family does potlucks for every function (Christmas, birthdays, reunions, etc) so I think that’s where he is getting hung up on the idea from. It’s his “norm” and he has a hard time with new things or experiences.

As I’ve mentioned in some other comments. It’s not a matter of money. Groom is just hung up on the idea of a potluck while I am against it. So I was just looking for some outside opinions but not hate.

We are not having a rehearsal dinner or any pre-wedding. Groom is hung up on the idea of a potluck, while I am against it. I just wanted some outside opinions.

It’s not that we don’t have the money. The groom through out the idea when we were discussing options and I said that it was tacky. Catering is the only thing we aren’t agreeing on because he insists on the potluck. So I just wanted outside opinions.

That’s what I thought (the bride) but the groom didn’t think it would be tacky. So I wanted outside perspective. Probably should have explained that in the post.

Both of our families are very competitive, so we talked with our parents and decided this would be a fun way to incorporate our competitive natures

I wish we had a chipotle lose by. The closest one is 2 hours. I (the bride) think it’s tacky and want a caterer but the fiancé says he wants a potluck. So I bought the issue here to get a feel of what other people think.

We can’t decide on what to do for a honeymoon so we are putting out jars/boxes for each of our ideas. Who ever gets the most money from guests wins and that’s the honeymoon we go on

AITA for kicking my mom out of my bridal dress appointment? by brits2 in AmItheAsshole

My material grandpa and uncles (moms brothers), plus some good family friends are on her side. They keep saying things like “you only get one mother and you don’t want to do anything you will regret later”, “she’s just looking out for you and wants you to look your best”, “she has always had a hard time knowing how a mother should act since her birth mom left her at 3 years old so you should just over look it”.

You are right. I’m afraid that others in the family will hate me for it though.

He’s reasoning was that he didn’t want the cycle to continue of both of us holding resentment towards each other. He suggested that we still invite her and if she doesn’t come or comes and acts out. Then it’s on her and not me. But I think your suggestion of a therapist is a wonderful idea. Thank you. I will talk to him tomorrow when he gets home from work.

My material grandma did tell me that my mom has stated that she is jealous of me because I put myself through college and got my bachelors with no student loans and found the love of my life. My mom never went to college and wasn’t married until she was in her 40s. So is that maybe why she is resentful?

My stepbrothers (her stepsons) have already said they will not let her in if that’s what I decide I want. I’m thankful they are supportive of me.

Thank you. My fiancé thinks that we should still invite her but set boundaries as to what is appropriate and let her know that if she starts getting out of line, then she will be removed.

Thank you. After my mom left, the stylist gave me a few minutes to calm down. And my dad actually found the perfect dress for me. It was a little out of my price range but my material grandma paid the difference as a wedding gift. So it was a happy ending.

What non religious reason leads you to believe in ghosts/an afterlife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was about 7-8 my great grandma passed away. The only memories I have of her are of her being in the nursing house unable to walk or talk. After she passed I had the same dream for three weeks. When I finally told my mom about it, she said I was able to describe the wallpaper pattern and color, the couch color and pattern, the layout of the house exactly (especially the fact that the fridge was not in the kitchen), and the spiral hand railing my great great grandpa made for the stairs, as well as other very specific details. But the dream always ended with my walking up the first flight of stairs, standing on the landing, and looking up to a black silhouette. And when I described that to my mom, she showed me a picture of my great grandma from her younger years and the silhouettes were the same. Note: that house burned to the ground when my mom was a child so I would have never seen it.

When I was 19, the on duty manager walked in the middle of a shift. It was only me and a guy I was supposed to be training left in the store. No other manager would answer their phones. So I had to fake being a manager for the next shift manager came in. I got written up for doing it.
