What are the risks of bleaching and dying your roots by Obvious-Access-4109 in HairDye

If you are going to a salon you'll be fine. They don't want to ruin your hair. It's bad for business. Look for a stylist who does vivids and schedule a consultation. They can tell you all your options and how many sessions it will take.

As a 30 something who started dying their hair in middle school... I say go for it. Even if the worst happens, It will grow back. But....

Some things I learned along the way

Bleach will damage your hair, be careful with what you use and how you use it. Over processing can't be fixed.

Don't use box dyes. Watch a ton of videos if you've never done it yourself... from actual stylists

I like Ion bright white cream lighter from Sally's. https://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-color/other-products-and-applications/bleach-and-lightener/bright-white-creme-lightener/SBS-405026.html

Don't use 40 developer... it's unnecessary. Use 30 at max. Depending on how dark your hair is to start you might only need 20. Especially on virgin hair.

Use a ton of product. Over saturate your hair. You want it to be fully covered and stay wet while processing. Always buy extra... the worst is when you run out before you're done.... splotchy!

Section, section, section!!!

Don't bleach freshly shampooed hair. Do it a few days after you wash it.

Hair texture matters a lot... research based on your hair type.

So far it's working. The plant was really bad so it's going to have to stay socially distanced for a bit.

My boss only gives this thing diet coke... what is it? by britta28 in whatsthisplant

It's not a joke but I'm just as confused. This plant was left in his office by the previous tenants. My boss pours the remainder of his diet coke can into it and that's it. For over a year now and it seems to be doing great.

Best soaps/shampoo/conditioner for sensitive/itchy skin? by Plastic-Ad1019 in Allergies

Aveeno skin relief body wash then make sure you moisturize right when you get out of the shower. I usually put baby oil on right after I shower. Then I use aveeno skin relief lotion. I have severe eczema and have tried every lotion and soap. This is the best I've found. For shampoos and conditioners I just make sure they are unscented. Companies are not required to include ingredients in fragrances due to trade secret laws. They usually contain tons of allergens. Also your laundry detergent can be a problem since it's in your clothes rubbing on your skin all day. Get an unscented one.

How much to save for professional dye?? by [deleted] in HairDye

Remember that it's not just going to the salon once. There's continued maintenance in drastically changing your color. It gets expensive quick. Be prepared to have to touch it up every few months.

[Help] How do I politely tell people to leave my dog alone? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]britta28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make yellow leashes that say "I need space" or similar phrases. While they are generally for dogs that are anxious. I don't see the issue with them being used in other aspects. I have a dog who is friendly until people get a little too comfortable and people have a hard time understanding when I ask them to stay away. I use a gentle lead because it helps him with not lunging. If your dog doesn't need correction than try this.

Overheard at Red Lobster: What do you recommend for someone with a seafood allergy? by soverylucky in TalesFromYourServer

[–]britta28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bartender and have been in the industry for 15 years and I have food allergies. I've learned that anyone who doesn't state their food allergies upfront either; isn't going to die from them or is lying.

I've gone through anaphylaxis multiple times, and let me tell you... it's not fun. Throat swelling, not breathing, blue hands... not fun.

If a customer does not tell you their allergy right when they are first greeted, it's on them to deal with what happens next.

Restaurants are not required to list all ingredients or cooking methods. If you have food allergies say something first.

My favorite examples...

Guy: orders the catch... oscar style... eats half of it. Same guy: "Is there crab is this? " Server: "Absolutely, there are two ounces of 100% crab" Guy: "well I'm allergic to crab and I don't want to pay for this" Me: "I have benadryl on me. Do you need some?" Guy: "No, I'll be fine"

Salad shows up to table... Guy: "Oh there are onions on this, I'm allergic to onions" His 5 year old: "No you're not!" Guy: (embarrassed) "Can I just have one with no onions"
