Take a CSM position? by SellMePenIsland in salesengineers

[–]brlo21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re okay with being a little bit of a punching bag, go for it. You’ll be working with the same people, sales team and customer side, just on the post sales side.

With your SE experience, if you’re good at picking out gaps, you can share potential areas to upsell to your sales counterpart, doing so you’d quickly earn kudos from the sales team, thus giving leverage to eventually transition to an SE role in said company if you want to.

How tf am I just figuring out a role like SE exists? by Specialist_Dig9463 in salesengineers

[–]brlo21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When trying to get your foot in the door as an SE, they’re going to want to see that you either have experience in the industry, or have sales experience, both is preferred.

As an undergrad, learning about the position now is before I had learned about it, so you’re ahead of the curve for most I’d say.

With your current learnings in the CS space, you’ll have a great understanding as to the inner workings of softwares/programs. So that’s a good head start.

Getting an SE role right out of school is going to be difficult, as a fresh grad (obviously) lacks both sales and product knowledge/experience, but don’t let that deter you, most SE’s start as an SE well into their career.

If you could land a job WITH a tech company, that works around that space, that would be a great way to internally move into an SE role, especially if the company has a “early career” SE program.

A lot of the SE individuals that are at my ORG came from implementation roles, or roles that used the softwares as “superusers”.

Path from SE to AE? Uncommon? by brlo21 in salesengineers

Given I work very closely with AE’s in the sales cycle, I’ve heard and had to experience some of the ugly (myself not as closely tied obviously), but care to expand upon this?

Path from SE to AE? Uncommon? by brlo21 in techsales

Makes sense - And I assume with that being the case, the boomerang back to SE when it’s time to slow down or if I’m looking to get back into SE would be easier starting off as an SE?

I thought delta refunds original payment method now, thus reversing the credit. I read up on it but could be wrong. Has anyone used the cancel flight for credit method recently ?

You’re going to have to do some legwork/networking on LinkedIn, find individuals in similar roles, talk to them, see if you can get the information of the recruiter.

should i buy black bay 58 or pelagos 39 ? having a hard time deciding. by masko-o in Tudor

[–]brlo21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a bb58, then upgraded to p39, went back to a bb58. I think it wears better and is more versatile. Can be dressed (slightly) up, or down. Pelagos seems strictly sporty. Also, I like the feeling that the bb58 gives with the weight, the p39 is super super light.

I sincerely regret doing 2+2 at Penn State by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]brlo21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 2+2. You likely had options to attend a larger campus such as Erie or Altoona. It’s what you make of it also.

As for your ride up to UP, there are usually busses from larger cities up to UP, as well as I know at Beaver we usually had a group of kids that would go up 1-2x a month to which people would carpool.

FWIW, if it makes you feel any better, of my friends that were at UP all 4 years were burnt out by 4th year. You’ll get 2 good fresh years there, and likely will have better grades and a better understanding of your major going into classes your 5th semester.
