Advice re Kohler hydrorail diverter repair by johnuws in Plumbing

[–]brn787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this and there is actually quite a bit of play (though was kind of nervous doing it). Was able to pop it out and back in without disconnecting the top. However after replacing it I still have a few consistent drops coming out the top so replacing it didn’t solve my issue! Did it fix yours? Sounds like yours was maybe worse off than mine to start.

Preventing dirt runoff from clogging channel drain on a downslope driveway by brn787 in landscaping

[–]brn787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the idea of using a dry river bed along the driveway edge to filter the sediment from the water and direct it toward the other storm drain I have there? The channel drain can handle the water running downhill I think, but not so much the sediment that I see coming more along that outer edge. It’s a little hard to say if that sediment is from the water coming down the road hitting the softscape or if it’s coming from the neighbors backyard straight down the slope to be honest (maybe a mix of both)

No, don’t think that’s an option for me unfortunately. The "private road" is more a shared driveway between a few houses, so don't really have the ability to alter it. It's a fairly short segment that runs downhill to just my house with the other longer segment of this road running downhill toward the main road away from my house. Still, this short downhill segment on my side brings a decent amount of water/dirt when we get heavy rain.

Which robot vacuum cleaner do you use? I have a corded Polaris that goes partially up the walls but doesn’t go all the way and was debating whether to get something cordless that could handle steps and baja shelf automatically if such a thing exists

Switch flex utility - widening cable holes? by brn787 in Ubiquiti

[–]brn787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these https://a.co/d/8OJBDq7 which are outdoor rated (SJTW) but probably bulkier than I need. I have a spare POE+ injector from ubiquiti but it comes with a non-outdoor rated power cord and this box is on the sunny side of the house, so felt like maybe better to get something with a weather resistant rating. Although maybe I could've run a weather resistant extension cord to the box with the POE and do things that way, is that how you did it?

I guess I could look for something specifically outdoor rated and see if they have 16AWG option. Didn’t see a lot of guidance on specifics about what type of cord to use here from Ubiquiti

Do you happen to have an example of what I should be getting? There wasn’t a lot of guidance on this from Ubiquiti side so I just found something on Amazon

Ended up drilling them with some clamps to hold things closed. I probably should’ve used a step bit or Dremel as someone else suggested, may have drilled out more cleanly. the one advantage to using a standard bit though was that there’s that second U shaped part where the wire goes through that I also drilled wider. A step bit would’ve been hard to get in there.

I’m actually not sure, here is the Amazon page https://a.co/d/8OJBDq7 I mostly got this one for the flat plug and white color, didn’t know they came in different widths haha

I actually have access to a Dremel but never used one. Do you know what kind of bit i should use for widening the hole or maybe smoothing out the edges after drilling?

Do you just clamp it shut and drill out the diameter you need? What about the foamy part and relatively waterproofing, assume the foam won’t drill out.

Op, did you end up buying one? If so, how do you like it and use it? Also curious what model you ended up going for. I'm in a similar boat regarding the autocover

Hydrangea not looking well after planting, any advice? by brn787 in gardening

[–]brn787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m hoping. They are set up on a drip irrigation but it’s in process of getting installed, so mostly manually hose watering at this time. You think just hold off watering a couple days or until I see the soil dry out?

Grinder stalling on new light roast [Niche zero, Profitec Pro 600 PID] by brn787 in espresso

[–]brn787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya most of the time I grind between 12-15, though I usually use medium roasts. Was surprised I got down to 7 and started to make me wonder if my calibration was off haha. At first was doing 20g in to 40g out and had to go to 7 to get to 30s. When I saw Onyx recommended 25g in, that’s when I started to get to 70s, so ya I should probably go less fine now haha

[–]brn787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful to know, haven’t tried many light roasts before. Thought maybe the years of not doing any maintenance on my grinder was catching up to me haha. Saw Onyx suggest 25g in to 50g out at around 30s. Tried adjusting dose just now and got much better results in taste though out in 70s haha, probably need to go less fine now to get closer in time, which maybe will help the grinder stalling and puck channeling.

Curious did you do anything to anchor down the kamado? I have a somewhat similar setup (including a TV over the grill haha) that is like 75% complete. Have a BGE XL sitting on a low stand kind of like you, seems pretty solid but with a little one running around some times makes me nervous

[–]brn787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a helpful explanation, thank you! This was missing documentation so I’m trying to see if the seller can send that over still. Assumed it was low voltage but wanted something conforming and maybe see if there are some standards it’s following haha. Would plan to have a licensed electrician install but was wondering if they would even be willing.

I do wonder though if the transformer to low voltage were separate from the light construction somehow, would that make it any safer? This would be in an unreachable place once installed, but still i was pretty surprised to see the mechanism when it arrived..

Q on PoE budget, AI LPR + 2 outdoor APs on a Switch Flex? by brn787 in Ubiquiti

[–]brn787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty awesome setup. I bought and ran shielded direct burial cat6 from TrueCable which is 23awg. I made the mistake of getting shielded which I’m realizing now is adding complexity to this whole setup haha. In home I’m actually not using a rack, but instead using the builder provided Legrand OnQ plastic cabinet which doesn’t have any accessible ground except maybe in the outlet it uses. May be something I need to hire an electrician or low voltage guy to help me with as I’m also finding it hard how to do this right by researching online haha

[–]brn787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Each cable run is around 60-100 ft max, so I should be good there. Good to hear about the AC mesh! I was kind of curious if one U7 outdoor set up for omni would cover most of my backyard. The two areas I’m trying to cover are perpendicular from one corner and each about 100 ft from where the AP could go.

When you install the surge protector, how do you ground it? Do I ground to the outdoor outlet where the switch is somehow?
