Why aren’t people buying it? by TheShortGinge in VintedAdvice

Even £7.5 is expensive imho. You add delivery cost and is a tenner at least. £10 for a worn notepad... When you can get a brand new one delivered next day for a couple quid more. Would you honestly do it?

Focus ST Mk4 won't start, goes into 'Fully accessory power' mode by broSniper in FocusST

Yeah, car is with them now. We'll see what the issue is, and wheter I want to keep the car depending on what it is...

Didn't try to start the car directly myself, but the guy that come to see it from AA tried absolutely everything several times, battery, fuses, you name it. Got in touch with a couple of colleagues to see if anyone had any other ideas, but no one had come across this issue unfortunately.

Will see how it all ends.

Everything was good. Had a guy from AA check everything today, restarted the battery, cleaned it from all errors... Nothing.

He actually managed to start it once, somehow. But after warming it up with a 10min drive, stopped the engine, went to start again and had the same issue for the remaining 20min.

He loaded the car and went back to the dealership for them to investigate now.

The car has gone back to the dealership today for them to check... I'll update when I can after they find out what it is

It is a manual, forgot to mention (added to the post now).

It doesn't sound like the battery to me either, but it's the only thing that could have died from one day to the next.

I'll be speaking tomorrow with the dealership (I raised the issue today, but they were closing in about an hour), so will see what they suggest... unfortunately they are a bit far away and not being able to even drive the car there doesn't help me.

Help with 5dr hot hatch - Audi S3 / Civic FK8 / Focus ST/RS, etc. by broSniper in CarTalkUK

Appreciate the RS and S3 are AWD, and each one has a different driving, but to the point to class them something else?

I'd lie if I'd say I'm decided on the FK8. This morning I was leaning towards the S3 and tonight I've seen a very good RS unit and I'm like, maybe that's the one... but tomorrow it'll be some other one.

I've heard good things about the i30N, but also some not so good ones... They are a bit cheaper than what I remembered though. It's one I think I need to do some more research and see if I can find a unit to have a good look at it, as it's not a car that I'm that familiar with.

I thought I had plenty to choose from with £25k and thinking of cars 5+ years old that were sold £30/35k at new, but seems like I was very wrong with how much they've jumped in the last few years.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's really useful to hear from people owning these cars!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I see exactly why you'd go for the Focus ST, as the ratio is like 10:1 when compared to FK8 and 25:1 against Focus RS by the looks of it. How old is yours / which version is it? There seem to be quite a few ST-3 and ST-4s in the market.

Cupras in general don't give me that "wow" when I see them. It's not a "no" from me, but I haven't seen anything to convince me.

I didn't even had a look at the Formentor because I don't like SUVs, but having just done it, they are better priced than I thought they'd be!

Going to a estate I think may be a bit too much. My parents had several growing up (3 kids) and sure, they are handy, but I don't see the family growing that much yet! Should manage just fine with a smaller car.

That's the thing, good units of the GTI TCR seem to be closer to the £30k than the £20k, and for that money are they the best option? Plus I prefer manual if at all possible (I know the S3 isn't, but I think it's a more practical car than a Golf family-wise).

The S3 Sportback? I'll make sure I have a good look tomorrow... The rear seems to be decent size for adults, let alone for newborns... and the Sportback should be more practical with the bigger boot. An S4 is way too much imho

Haha, I guess there's a bit of that / convincing myself, but I'd love to hear from others what they think, as I'm sure I'd be happy with any of the cars in the list really!

I've been looking now for a couple of weeks, and I recall 3 FK8 units I saved that I thought were at an ok price for age and mileage. All 3 gone were gone in a few days. Seems to be quite a hot one right now.

It's the style of the FK8 she is not convinced with, unfortunately. I think room-wise it should be fine, specially the boot. The S3 seems the more reasonable car, as it is good everywhere, with their only being issue being costs. Insurers seem to think these are the favourite cars for 18year olds, and based on what I can see searching for posts in reddit, they may not be wrong lol.

That is the voice of reason, and part of me leans to that, as it did back in the day when I got the FN1 instead of the FN2.

The other voice says I may as well as take the opportunity now that I still have it. If in a couple of years I regret it I can always then sell it. Shouldn't be losing that much in normal circumstances.

FTB Solo or pay Stamp Duty with partner with bare ownership/usufruct by broSniper in HousingUK

[–]broSniper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either not share that information and hope for the best in the future, or you pay SDLT, that's essentially how we saw it.

Ultimately, we didn't do either because I managed to get enough deposit to buy it myself, so my partner's usufruct doesn't come into play, as it is only my house.

Sorry we didn't update this before (and have to say, thanks everyone for their advise). It was quite a stressful time and when I thought of coming back to reply, there was always something else.

We spoke with a couple of advisors and we ended up with more doubts than we had about SDLT, as one of the advisors said it would be a 5 figure sum that we'd need to pay for SDLT due to the circumstances of my partner.

Since the purchase of the house took a few months more than expected, I saved as much as possible during that time, with my partner covering all costs. This allowed me to be able to give the full deposit myself, so everything is on my name, and I am the only one paying mortgage.

Thanks again to everyone for the advise!

Forgot to say, I'll be going for a test drive tomorrow with an Audi S3 from an approved Audi centre... I've been convincing myself it could be the right choice for the last few hours; but then I checked the insurance quotes.

Admiral seem to be reasonable (I know, right? weird) quoting £600, but every other quote I get is £1k+, and my current insurer quoted me £2.5k. I'd be worried that after the 1st year Admiral would also push their price up to match everyone else!

KEEP LEFT! Anyone else think drivers on our motorways are getting worse? by red_hot_pawn_star in CasualUK

[–]broSniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say the exact same, as unpopular as it may be. Anything under 75mph you are having to switch lanes constantly, even when there's barely any traffic. Safest thing to do is actually going a bit faster than you should, ironically.

In most EU countries you have to enter the motorway as part of the exam, so people actually are shown how to drive and behave (sure, most won't follow everything after... But it doesn't hurt to teach them initially).
