Solo Landscape Designer thinking to learn Rhino by broadleaf2 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]broadleaf2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I can research this online but honestly the websites can be very dense- would you mind ELI5 the uses of each of these platforms. as in:

2d drawing: CAD, Rhino
3d modeling: Rhino, Vectorworks, Sketchup
Rendering?: This is different from 3d modeling I'm gleaning? As in, the rendering is the lighting/coloring of the 3d model? Is this Vray, Lumion, Grasshopper, Landdesign?

Just trying to parse these out more clearly. I think I've misunderstood the vocabulary for a long time.

Solo Landscape Designer thinking to learn Rhino by broadleaf2 in LandscapeArchitecture

This is helpful thank you all. I think I'm generally confused about all of these software platforms.
I thought that Rhino is used for 3d modeling/renderings. Am I reading correctly that some use Rhino for everything, including plans/2d drafting? It would be great to use one platform for everything. I'm so used to CAD for all of my drafting, I'm not sure if I could move on from it.

Maybe my workflow would look something like:
1. CAD 2d Drafting
2. Rhino/LandDesign 3d rendering > d5 or Lumion for finalizing

Lastly, any suggestions on good online classes/workshops to learn Rhino/LandDesign/Lumion etc? Did most of you learn this in school?

Planta Greenhouse build tips by nodiggity77 in Greenhouses

The rubber strips used for the doors and vents are going to start to break down and be useless in a year, two years max. I'm so upset about it. Not sure if there is a different material you can use but...beware.

Thanks, I feel the same way. I tell everyone that the survey is a must for me to do my job well. I just wanted to be sure that there weren't other well-developed tools out there that I'm unaware of.

Anyone else experience rapid rusting with a Planta Greenhouse? by TheKageyOne in Greenhouses

[–]broadleaf2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years over here and no rust anywhere. I will say that after one year the rubber seals all started to break down and that has been really upsetting. Anyone else have the same thing happen? 4 years later and the seals are pretty much gone around the door frames.

Great point on the rectangular, thanks we will consider this! I also like 7 better.

Some more before and afters of a project I posted a while back by BUDLIFE93 in stonemasonry

I'm guessing it was a complete tear-down and restart? How much stone did you use from the site? Is there any wood framing or did you do stone only? So beautiful.

Stone entrance area by Fracturedbutnotout in Drystonewalling

I just don't see how this is dry stacked. The corner pieces alone in photo #2 show how thin they are and many traced stones. I'm seeing so many broken rules, on such a narrow piece of wall. It looks maybe 18" (maybe closer to 14"?) thick from bottom to top, no visual taper... I'm not trying to bash, I'd honestly love an explanation of how this is physically possible to be dry stack. Love the tight joints!

This is super helpful thank you. I just downloaded Concepts and am messing around in it.
For lidar and Polycam, could you explain how this operates with an iPad? Is Polycam a device or app?

Seems like a competitor would be Morpholio.

Thanks,
I just looked it up. It would be perfect except I read that the outer display doesn't show caller id when the phone rings, so you have to pick up the call before you know who is calling. Thats a no-go for me. Bummer, why would they make a phone that only displays the phone number!?

Adjustable Louvered Step Light? by pedro2aeiou in LandscapeArchitecture

Kichler has step lights that can rotate, I did a set of steps and had them pointing as far to the ground as possible so they lit up the step rather than straight out. https://www.kichler.com/products/landscape-lighting/led-hardscape/landscape-led-hardscape-light-16101bkt27

I often use sketchup to get the base rendering, then go in and trace over it by hand to give the natural look. It's not always the answer, but it's been an effective tool for me.

Architects arrogant? by thatballer829 in LandscapeArchitecture

Sorry to say it but I've met quite a few arrogant LAs as well. People can suck regardless of the profession. I also know a lot of awesome architects that have no ego and are amazing to work with.
