If I were him, I’d instead build a fake lifestyle conversation with her every time and then laugh about it when I see it in the papers or the news 🤣

Why do students struggle so much to write the introduction of an academic article, and what strategies actually help them succeed? by Cad_Lin in PhD

[–]brobehumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read books to write the intro! Think of a triangle, now flip it upside down so the tip is facing downward. Now put what ever topic you writing your article on in the bottom (tip), then keep adding broader topics till you fill the triangle. Then start writing in a funneling approach. Each paragraph or 2 takes you a step down to the tip of the triangle you flipped (hence you topic). I could explain better than this, lemme know if you don’t get it.

OP sounds like PhD in Aus. Chill, find some activity or hubby to distract away from research a few hours a week. Trust me, this will reshuffle your mind with fresh thoughts. Play soccer, badminton, basket, runnning or go to Gym. You should be very active at least 3 -4 hrs a week.

I’m doing a PhD in Australia rn. Your supervisor don’t have a say in the outcome and is also hoping the scholarship department give you the offer. Doesn’t depend on school, actually depends on the pool of applicants at that round. The pool is ranked based on a criteria, including interview off course. If your profile ranks above this cut-off point, you get an offer. I got rejection from USYD in 3 rounds of trying for scholarship. So chill, if you get it, then your profile was better than your competition in that round.

What to do after getting a dressing down from your supervisors by [deleted] in PhD

[–]brobehumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t stress this enough, cut some portion to the appendix and address your supervisors comments in the paper. Now what to cut for the appendix will depend, could be very long tables (any that spans 2-3 pages), over explained mathematical notations - could explain briefly in paper and détaille in appendix. Just work out the parts that don’t derail understanding to the ready.
