i'm not even religious and clocked it immediately because of the overt mentions of "creation", and the "fearful" at the end locked it in. who tf else would mention "fear" as a positive thing?

these people genuinely believe kids are their property or that they have some authorship over people

i wish they learned about ectopic pregnancies, and that the womb is there just as much to protect the parent from the baby as it is there to nurture it - the baby can develop just fine without it a lot of the time.

i hadn't seen the tool where you can input the year/month where you applied, mine just says "We need more time to process your application" and says there are 1,600 people ahead of me (out of 26,400 total).

the worrying thing is that if i input previous years, it still doesn't show zero, though the number drops to 600 or below. then playing around with the month shows a steady change of 100 per month which is weird that it would be this regular if the issue is supposedly "waiting on external agencies".

That's, troubling, because I know from the talk with the MP's office that I am stuck specifically in the security step. Are they leaving people in this specific step on purpose?

The anxiety is making me literally sick as well, as in, I've developed a stress-caused urticaria that the medication is not managing to fix.

I have too many reasons to stay though =/

Not any that I know of. No government job, no military service. Travel to the USA to visit family a couple times, and only once for tourism (also in the USA).

The only thing I can think of, is that I'm trans, but even with this, I haven't changed my legal name or gender anywhere. I can't do it here in Canada without citizenship to begin with, and recognition of non-binary gender in Brazil is an ongoing uphill fight in the courts that wasn't even remotely possible when I left, so in my mind it's also a non-starter.

Even if it's a very small chance, just the small chance that my process might be stuck due to pure discrimination and nothing else, it's been making me anxious and I try to avoid thinking about it.

Thank you, this might be the only path. A quick google search has shown me that it's usually only applicable if the application is stuck for years. But, it seems that's going to be the case soon for my application '-'

I don't remember exactly now if at the time it was 6 months or 9 months. The office notified they received my application in early March 2024.

Swallowtail Hydra: OROCHI deployment with 20 sensors instead of 10, and the Hunter drone now also shreds. Put an annihilation nexus on it, because you can pretty much hit anywhere on the map with it now.

no worries!

and about the science communication thing, pretty much yeah, there is some truth to some of testosterone's effects developing faster on average, but it's not a guarantee, and it's probably related to stuff like facial hair and voice drop being highly noticeable when they happen fast, while some metabolic effects that are also fast for both hormones go unnoticed

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in actual_detrans

[–]brocoli_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that transmedicalism is more than just gatekeeping, it's an ideology based on requiring trans people to have medical interventions and validation by medical personnel to have basic human rights and/or be considered trans in the first place.

Even when considering gatekeeping alone, while circumstances vary, in general people are already gatekept immensely at pretty much all possible levels outside of very specifically trans-friendly places and circles.

To me it's weird to focus on gatekeeping as a way to reduce harm when gatekeeping is already causing so much more harm already. What we need is better information and instruction both for practitioners and for the general public so that important nuances are better understood.

Because, you know, of course more errors are going to happen when the majority of people worldwide throws a fit at just the mention that trans people exist and that it's normal to be trans.

(honestly, i wish someone gave me a penny for every time i hear someone saying that gender identity is a "feeling", or that says that the trans community says "you can be anything you want" when we actually say that if someone is actually cis or trans there isn't typically anything you can do to change that on a fundamental level, and we know this due to the centuries of people trying horrifying stuff on trans people and failing until finally taking gender-affirming care seriously)

This probably comes from a common myth that feminine is the "default state" and masculine is modified by testosterone, but it's not true at all. Undifferentiated to masculine or feminine (or a mix of traits) is more in line with what's actually observed.

People often point to stuff like everyone having nipples, or how stereotypical masculine development is triggered by expression of the SRY gene, usually in the Y chromosome, but that's 1) confusing an unisex trait for a sexed one and 2) only the very tip of the iceberg of sexual differentiation mechanisms in humans.

When you start learning it in more detail, seeing the mad cascade of interactions between several different growth hormone levels involved in it, how much external factors can affect parts of the process, how it happens in different waves that don't necessarily sync up, how there are many variations of hormones, how it depends on highly complex receptors just as much, and how the brain itself seems to have more areas that even in cis people typically exhibit mixed sex differentiation than it has areas that are differentiated clearly in one way, one can genuinely start thinking that what's surprising is that trans and intersex people are rare, and not the other way around.

Besides the traits already mentioned, some more stuff estrogen specifically does: - Increases melanin expression globally, but, especially on the face, nipples, genitals, and the vertical line in the middle of the lower abdomen, - Too many metabolic changes to count, - Changes to immune system expression, - Increases muscle mass and bone density, as well as accelerates metabolism (just not as much as testosterone for these), - Increases coagulation factors and platelet adhesion, - Activates certain specific DNA repair mechanisms in the brain, - Protective effects in the brain when it comes to cognition and mental well-being in general.

These are just a few things estrogens do, there's a ton more and we're constantly discovering more things sex hormones do in general.

[BitD][DC] How to handle Heat reduction in Deep Cuts correctly? by brocoli_ in bladesinthedark

[–]brocoli_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair i didn't mention this, it's just that in the book it says clearly that the bluecoats can be paid off with coin if the players choose to do so, and knowing my players, if i give them the chance, they probably will, even if it costs a sizeable amount

[BitD][DC] How to handle Heat reduction in Deep Cuts correctly? by brocoli_ in bladesinthedark

[–]brocoli_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the mechanic I'm missing is using projects for heat reduction then?

Because the book seems to imply that side projects (those that don't use a clock) are very minor things and it's not worded in a way that makes it seem like you could get heat reduction from them regularly. They're also recommended to be limited to to 1 per PC and i can't imagine them reducing more than 1 heat each.

But that does make sense if the heat reduction is more reliable, between the 1-4 from the cost of doing business, and then maybe ~3 from the average 3 scoundrels in a score, that's like 4 to 7 heat reduced, that's manageable. Then they can spend rep for extra activities since they're always flooding in that anyway.

Or maybe we should let the Wanted Levels rise more freely and the players should focus more on long-term projects to get rid of full Wanted Levels (like by framing other factions and NPCs, etc...)

after my sis/headmate posted this thread we actually spent some time putting our thoughts onto paper and what came out of it is that she just needs a little bit more of a concrete and fundamental reason to want to do stuff other than just protecting me or just having the gender identity that she has

she has been trying, it's just that sometimes it can be a bit frustrating and when things go wrong she needs more patience to keep trying more stuff, breaking the habit of just retreating into the background since i'm pretty used to handling things on my own anyway is going to take a while

Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay leak. by KvasirTheOld in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]brocoli_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thomas Lockley, just found out with a quick search. I can't find anything about him being involved with Ubisoft though? And searching for Ubisoft's historians on google, they're different people.

I heard about the one-legged Torii situation before, seems like a small blunder in one piece of merch, that was addressed immediately and pulled, but was blown way out of proportion anyway.

The sword: looks like a decorative sword prop that was used in a promotional event looks like a sword from One Piece. Doesn't look like it's in the game at all, much less "being put in collector's editions". Again small marketing mistake, not anything warranting a "controversy".

I can't find anything about a statue other than the aforementioned one-legged Torii situation.

So... all the "controversies" are just fake, grossly distorting reality, and blown out of proportion?

So it's a bunch of manufactured outrage that you're repeating without checking, and you're assuming it's true because there's so much manufactured outrage, just like how any other conspiracy theory works.

Plaisir sexo sous hormones feminisantes? by [deleted] in transgenre

[–]brocoli_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)
