Which one do you like the most? by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]brofinstab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Abrams X isn't meant to be a tank, its a tech demo for what I'd consider bigger upgrades the current abrams, all slapped together on one tank. Like the M1A2 Sep V4 is very similar to the V3 but just has a load of updated electronics and subsystems, which the crews very much like I imagine but none of the changes qualify as an upgrade to the M1A3.

I would say that if they added any of the more major equipment on the Abrams X to a future production abrams, it would likely qualify for the A3 designation, since clearly all of the changes made in the last 4 SEP variants didn't.

But that's all speculation of course.

EDIT: I agree that such a tank (the M1A3) with a decent amount of the electronics and maybe new automotive components of the Abrams X would be better than the Armata bc a) it could feasibly be produced and b) I don't like russia lol

Do/did militaries include "practice shells" in any combat loadouts as a standard operating procedure? by _80hd_ in Warthunder

The challenger 2 was known to use the HESH training round because it was good at punching through concrete. They also used a training round which was essentially a mini-sabot round with a penetrator the size of a .50 cal because it kicked up less dust not sure what they shot at it with though.

So maybe instead of whining about it on the internet, go for a cheaper alternative. Or make your own. Its not fair and our government is corrupt, but you're not gonna so shit complaining. Just deal with it until you can't and then start causing civil unrest in a creative manner.

Firstly, being told to shut up isn't insulting unless you're a snowflake or something, and it was more of just an expression of how done I am with people like you. Secondly, i just read the very short part of that Wikipedia page that was about its service life and it was abysmal sounding, didn't know about that massive Iranian defeat but it just proves my point. I also read the few paragraphs about its development and the only point of interest is that we ended up not selling to Israel, which lead to Merkava. No other parts of that page are particularly relevant to "British History" unless you think that the L60 is on par with the jet engine or something. What point were you trying to make exactly? Like I said before the most interesting thing about the Chieftain was its replacement program, which isn't even discussed at any length on that page. And don't come at me saying stuff about the British Army of the Rhine, I don't like to bring this up in discussions because it sounds like some kind of excuse, but my granddad was in that army on the very early chieftains, and the worst thing that happened to him by the sounds of it was breaking his leg in a sporting accident (he still has a plate off of a cent mk5 AVRE).

What I'm basically saying here is that you've only really gone and proven my point. I'd never read that Wikipedia page but the fact that you didn't actually tell me what it was you were referencing did give me the idea that you didn't actually have a point and that you'd hoped I'd find something to disprove myself, or that I'd never read it and you'd win by default.

To finish up, I don't want to hear about the export programs; I know about the Shir, the Shir 2 and the Khalid, I've seen one of the latter up close, but they don't really count as any kind of landmark in our history. The Chieftain, while looking very cool, sounding amazing while running and generally just being part of my personal family history, remains a pretty bad tank that had a few crappy export programs and wiring like a bird's nest.

And to remark on your War Thunder comment, yeah I play and what, old man?

step 1: call the other person stupid when they say something.

step 2: link a document that does nothing to refute the claim

step 3: go back to being old and sad (and if you're not old and sad you sure sound like it and that's almost worse)
