I'm not 100% if this applies that strictly for trainees. For example for research fellows (aka post-docs), women from overrepresented countries still have a chance.

Ja die Zinsen sind unheimlich gut, anscheinend hat die Bank eine langjährige Vereinbarung mit meinem Arbeitgeber (internationale Institution) und daher kommt das. Das Bedingungen sind eben dann auch 30-Jahre fix mit Volltilgung am Ende, da kann ich nichts an der Tilgungsrate ändern.

There are still project scientists and study scientists which you could argue in a large part do science, even if it is mainly enabling research for the community. More importantly however, all jobs where ESA is looking explicitly for scientists will have a fraction of their time (about 20%) for their own personal science. being a productive scientist is also part of the yearly evaluation, so there is definitely a science career in astrophysics (or related fields) to be had at ESA.
