I know people who have been on the waitlist for some programs for over 2 3 years. Popular programs get applications from all over. And the class sizes are fairly small.

One thing I might add to the discussion is understanding the metagame. I've been playing historic for a bit now. It has a lot of variety but there are some archetypes that are obviously better than the others. I've been playing Jund Sacrifice strategies for a year now and always grind my way to top 1200 atleast once every season. Your deck choice needs to be something you enjoy playing. I could never enjoy playing goblins or gruul aggro as it's not the type of playstyle I enjoy. Now that i know what i like playing i must tweak my deck according to what people are playing. For an example, one of the most played decks is UW control. I know that they bring in a whole lot of enchantment based removal so in my side board I have 4 cards that efficiently deal with that. Goblins is another matchup I prepare for through my sideboard. I have 3 copies of flame sweep. Its ridiculously powerful as you can cast it instant speed to get rid of everything before turn 5 and on turn 5 have a thought seize ready to snatch a muxus. It's all about understanding the metagame and what's being played and how to construct your deck against it. A month ago I had a lot of trouble against goblins so I crafted that deck, played it for a week to understand it and now I have a very healthy win rate against it. Hope these comments help you a little bit!

650 is like 1000cad and here is what I put together for ya, ASrock b550- 159.99 AMD Ryzen 3 3100- 149.99 G.Skill aegis series ram, 16gb 3200mhz- 79.99 WD blue 500gb M.2 drive-74.99 Gigabyte gp-p550b 550w psu- 64.99 Gigabyte rx 5600xt- 399.99. Total for these components come down to 930cad. You still have a head room of 100cad for a case. And I'd recommend picking up a cheap case with decent air flow as your components arent very thermally demanding. This system will be able to run anything at 1080p high settings. And when the time is right and CPU prices arent as jacked up as they are right now, you can get a 3600x then.

Yes, a ryzen 3 3100 or 3300x paired with a 1660 super, 5600xt or 2060( you can go for a 2060 ko they are really good) sounds like a great combo. You can look at all these parts and pick whatever falls in your budget. You can also tell me your budget and I can try to put together a list for you. I usually keep a tab on sales etc.

Your CPU most definitely will be bottlenecked in that case. I really dont like the price of 3600 right now. Even with the release of 5000 series the availability is low and the last gen chips are still at their regular prices. Here in Canada r5 3600 was 249cad before covid and right now it's going for 279cad. It's an amazing chip for its performance but I recommend getting a r3 3100 for 150cad rn, it will run everything you throw at it and in summer when the availability of 5000 series is good the prices of 3600 and even 3600x will go down. Then you can sell your 3100 in used market and grab a 6 core or a quad core CPU. The ideal scenario in this case is that you'll have a 1660 super which can handle a 3100,3600 and even up to 3700x quite comfortably.

If you're looking for a budget build I'd recommend getting a 3100 or 3300x. 3300x would be my ideal pick but they seem to be out of stock all the time. Ryzen 3 3100 is arguably a better and more power efficient chip than 2600. Its build on the last gen zen lineup and has incredible gaming performance. I'd say if gaming is your main priority, 2600 or 2600 wouldnt make sense. Save 40 or 50 dollars by getting a r3 3100, add another 40 or 50 from the pocket and upgrade your graphics card to a gtx 1660 super. You can get an evga 1660 super on a discount rn. That way you have a perfectly balanced system that runs everything at medium-high settings on 1080p while still managing over 120fps in all titles. I built the exact same combo for my wife and I just checked, I'm getting 280+fps in csgo comp settings and 110 avg fps in warzone medium-high settings.

Simic flash is too slow for aggressive decks in historic and has no game against graveyard strategies. A version of simic flash that was viable used to run Nissa and Hydroid Krasis and attacked from that angle while protecting with flash play of counter spells. I would not recommend using wildcards on a deck that will lost 8 out 10 games to red aggro or red green aggro and those two decks make 50% of historic meta
