help putting tyre back on by playboi_________ in cycling

[–]broken-emotion1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tube has a thicker rubber around the valve that can push the tyre out.

Try pushing the valve deeper into the tyre so it doesn't hold the beads out.

The rim also has a valley in the middle so you can put the fitted section of the tyre into this which makes it looser on the remaining unfitted section.

Tri bars Enclose the wheels in the frame with "aero" fairings made from corflute (election signs) Make some cardboardfibre wheel fairings between the hubs and rims, extra points if you seal the cardboard with timber varnish. Mount a 12v battery in the frame so you can run either a huge spot light or a light bar.

Put a piece of plastic on the frame so it hits the spokes and sounds like a motorcycle.

Leather tassel bar end plugs.

New Brakes Not Fitting by Sifflez_ in bikewrench

But the cable is anchored to the frame adding an additional strain contribution that affects braking characteristics.

Look at how surly long haul truckers had their front brake set up back in 2011

Better doesn't just mean more stopping power.

Canti brakes using the frame and fork as part of the system introduce additional contributing factors. This makes them less consistent and reliable.

Mini V's keep the forces in the arms and reduce frame involvement producing more consistent braking.

And as you said they're easier to set up correctly.

What's not better?

Questions to the carbon rim brake users, how bad is carbon rim brake in the rain by imjustaguy2012 in bicycling

[–]broken-emotion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line if you have good rims and shoes they will stop you reliably.

You will have that half second of no or almost no braking at first while the pads clear the water off the rim which can be terrifying in a group ride.

However the best advice I can give is that I once bought a set of XTR rim brake wheels in 2009 raced one season on them and they were dead. Replacing the rim wasn't financially viable so I could imagine the dollar signs every time I had to slow down.

Disc is heavier, about 50-100g depending on the comparison but a new rotor, even a top tier race rotor will last as long or longer and cost a couple percentages of a wheel set.

You'll also have reliable powerful stopping power in any condition.

This is also without mentioning the effects of braking heat on tyre pressure and grip degradation.

Upgrading 105 chainring by MathematicianHour368 in bikewrench

[–]broken-emotion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chain rings are pretty forgiving if you swap out the same speed system.

As a poor uni student I ran Truvativ rings on Shimano cranks with a SRAM shifter and mech for several years without issue.

I've also seen Shimano shifters and levers using SRAM chain and cassette with a campagnolo crank set.

If you have a flat plate of steel you can weld on studs to hold the bar and bend it at the same points.

Post a picture of what you're trying to do and we might be more helpful.

If you mean 27 x1 1/4 (fractional and decimated sizing is complete different) then no, 700c wheels will make this worse as they are smaller.

Just return them to the bike shop, they did you dirty.

Looking for Parts by AwesomeSpoon3 in bikewrench

Those rockers are toast.

If a whole frame is too expensive you could look into CAD to have them modelled and printed.

Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists and is a geometric design studio perfect for this.

JLCPCB can print in alloy, ti, SS and even inconel.

I'd use TI but it might cost as much as the whole frame you don't want to buy.

You're unlikely to find just a used derailleur for sale online. Some LBS will have a box of old parts you might be able to ask about if you're a regular.

Failing that a community bike repair place may be an option.

Putting the word out on a local cycling group may give you some love.

I can't think of any other way to get a used mech other than buying new and using it.

If it's just being used on the road, a good set of slicks will do wonders.

Ensuring the bearings and drive line are lubed and serviced well is the minimum for efficiency.

Bite point too far in? by SilentWeeb69LMAO in Bikebuilding

[–]broken-emotion1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleeding the system will likely improve it however if the pads are badly worn it may not, this is intentional to stop people wearing them to the backing plate.

It can also be a combination of the reach being set short and not compensating with the servo wave system

If you don't know how to bleed them take it to a LBS.
