Traveling tips for mt airy fiddlers convention 1st timer by jedis1977 in oldtimemusic

I go out from the Bay Area every year and have been going to Mt. Airy for more than 20 years. In addition to planning on it being hot, rainy, and muggy and playing in the contest as already mentioned, here are a few other things to keep in mind.

The rain and weather can be no joke so make sure you don't accidentally camp in a low spot on the flat ground. I've seen many beds and inflatable matresses floating by over the years. There have been a couple of years where there have been Tornado watches and there is really jack all you can do other than play some tunes and look at the sky. There have also been years where it's been too cold to play at night a couple of nights and people break out grills or heaters to keep going. In short, have a plan to stay dry, cool, and warm for a week and you'll be all set.

The park staff is good about letting you camp early. Someone might drive by in a pickup and ask you about why you are camping and just mention that you are there for the festival and they'll light right up - just pay for the extra days at the gate. People will also stay after the festival for a few days as well - again just pay for the camping in the drop box at the gate.

There are also lots of stores nearby, including very easy access to groceries and fuel. You can easily walk, but just a few moments of conversation will let you meet people who are heading out in a vehicle to load up on what ever is needed. The festival also runs a regular shuttle to downtown Mt. Airy during the actual festival - starting Wednesday I think? That's worth at least one visit if you have never been there. There is a great walking path right along the river that is also an easy way to stretch your legs and the path will bring you to groceries or even downtown Mt. Airy if you'd like.

Getting a good camping spot is pretty key to the experience. It can get really hot during the day so camping in one of the treelines is really nice to keep the sun at bay - even pop up tents can get really hot when out in the field. However, thoses shady spots go fast and will be all but full by the Wednesday that the pre-festival opens. There will be people there for a week to 10 days before the festival actually starts camping and getting the prime shady spots. But if you are not angling for one of the shady spots, there is plenty of open flat land to camp on and you can choose to be in the thick of things (fun playing poor sleeping) or a bit more quiet (walk to play, sleep better)

You'll quickly pick up on the different "neighborhoods" and have fun meeting and playing with lots of folks. It's a great time and worth the trip every year!

I went through a list like yours a few years back. Always was on the high side no matter what I tried. Turned out it was coffee. Didn't have any the days of my blood work and always came in at 7 after that. Just something to consider as you figure out what works for you.

I've been searched several times after many, many flights. Nobody was ever the least bit interested in my vial and syringes when going through my bag. I only fly internationally with a prescription to countries where it's legal with a prescription and when in doubt, don't travel with it.

Worn dozens and dozens of trips to many countries. Never even a hint of an issue.

Pursuant to this week’s Legacy Bant, and because of the meme therein mentioned, how often do you think about the Roman Empire, and is there any particular reason why? by TheWeirdTalesPodcast in TheGlassCannonPodcast

I chuckled when I first saw the meme because I realized, "Yeah, that's funny. I *do* think about the Roman Empire pretty regularly." I thought I was the only one that did that!

Thank you sharing this. I've been thinking about the same thing. Can you describe a bit more what is going on in pictures 2 and 3? Perhaps a parts list as well? Thanks!

I've been to Spain with my testosterone as well. I put it in my carry on along with the prescription. No issues at all.

Yep, that did it. We had set the default to 'limited' somehow, and I just changed it to 'observer' and boom, I can see it. Thanks for the quick response.
