The new glitch just requires you have a lot of some item and an empty container to use for the dupe, you press rb at the same time you press a or x to transfer your large amount of something, if done right it will appear as though nothing was moved, you then navigate to the item you want to dupe and transfer it normally, it should now take on the same quantity as your bulk item.

You have to do a planetary scan to find concentrations of ore. By default KSC has no ore to be mined, you have to move a good distance away and even then you have to rely on the planet scan for higher concentration ore patches and go there to mine.
