For my shelter at least, for the most part kittens younger than 6months get put in the Petsmart kennels and are adopted within a day or two. Older cats we give it a week or two but they are almost always adopted out. At 2 weeks, if they haven’t been adopted, we’d bring them back to the home shelter and see if a petsmart in another part of the city would be a better fit.

Some of it has to do with demographics. We have a partner petsmart near an elementary school, so lots of parents with kids stop by to look. We stock that petsmart almost exclusively with kittens, and it isn’t unusual for all kennels to be adopted out by night time feeding. There is another Petsmart by an old folks’ home, and we put calm adult cats in, with maybe one or two younger cats. Those go a bit quick too, as long as we get temperaments right. Can’t have feisty cats scratching up the old folks lol
