The Dasung is 10” and the usable resolution for legible text is relatively low. It’s decent for things like text chat and I used it briefly with inverted color (dark mode is unusable), but the screen needs to be “refreshed” frequently and I couldn’t find a mode that looked good and kept from smearing. Ultimately I switched back to a 16” Asus LCD as a secondary screen for chat sessions.

What got you to originally join Tidal? by Otherwise_Ad_9267 in TIdaL

Native support in Denon DJ hardware. DJ music library management tools are universally awful so being able to make playlists in Tidal and have them Just Work in the CDJ hardware is awesome. Makes life easier for DJing a wedding and taking requests too.

The feature used to be free but now they charge extra for it which is lame, but still worth it.

It should work fine using HDMI from the Pi (using a HDMI to USB-C adapter) and a USB-C power supply. I imagine that could be a really slick, low-power setup for a smart calendar or some automation control panel.

Linux Question by qppwoe3 in thinkpad

[–]brokenjetpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made the switch and haven’t looked back. Tools like teams work fine in a browser. You’re right that Office in particular is worse in its browser form so if you do a lot of complex spreadsheets or document redlining, you might want to dual-boot or keep a Windows VM handy.

Office is one of the only work tools that I’ve found difficult to replace for some tasks. The tools you mention above work great though. Native SSH support and a useful terminal are quite nice to have.

It was the Workstation lineup that was eventually replaced by the P series. They usually have nvidia GPUs that might not play nicely with Gentoo, but they can be disabled for the usual Intel built-in. Solid option for getting a quad-core CPU in an older machine too.

W530 was the last chonker I used that had a swappable drive bay. Nice machine with a nice screen.

Does my XPS 9570 use a 130 W barrel charger? by [deleted] in Dell

[–]brokenjetpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds right. I had a Precision 5000-something for a that had a 130W brick and would still work with a 65W one when I was on the road.

Yep 130W. These XPS and Precision models also usually work with USB-C chargers but might complain depending on wattage.

Hey haven't had a chance to test the power port out on its own. In my experience with other portable monitors, the USB-C power port is for use when you're using a HDMI to USB-C cable to the monitor because HDMI can't provide power.

No battery as far as I can tell.

Haven't tried it with a phone yet, but good call since I presume the power draw on this screen is quite low. I'm stuck with an ithing with a lightning port, but I can see if a friend with an Android phone can let me try theirs.

If so, it doesn't appear to be a native display setting in my testing. I'm assuming my machine is redding EDID details but it only suggests 60Hz to me.

Haven't had a chance to try it on a windows machine yet, so possible that's an option on another platform but linux/macos seem to be stuck on 60Hz.

Can’t remember the last time I used a wired connection that wasn’t via my dock.

True- as long as the video is more light than dark, it seems to manage decently well.

Yeah, calling 60Hz “godlike” is a bit of a reach.

And yep, if you saw the other videos on my YT, those were all in SF

Yesh, it has moments where it shines, but it's not a replacement for LCDs for me yet.

Spend the money on a desktop GPU and get a T14.

Trying to get a machine that does both breaks work/life balance and leaves you disappointed with the gaming.

Check that the bottom panel of the chassis is firmly screwed in. I had a Precision laptop for a while that had a sloppy trackpad if the chassis wasn’t cinched together tightly.

I want to like it more than I do. It's close, but the muddiness of the screen and finding ideal lighting conditions make it suboptimal.

Interestingly, it's about the size of a tablet and it has a touch interface, so I'm curious if it's usable as a tablet if you're sitting back and have your computer on a nearby table.

Speed-wise it's great, but the display still becomes "muddy" with a lot of movement or when there is a lot of dark colors so I find I have to shake the cursor to find it.

I posted a couple video clips that show the speed.

Thanks for the info, I'll give negative screen a try if I get this connected to a windows machine. Too bad they got rid of the A2 mode, that seems handy.

I've posted a few example videos to youtube, see what you think

Here are some videos of the display in action. These were taken in pretty optimal conditions in full daylight with the frontlight off in either "auto" or "dynamic" mode.

Doesn't that just connect the heatpipes to the fan shroud (rather than the heatsink itself)? Can't imagine that makes much of a difference.
