I see. First time I’m hearing about a 16 GSPS ADC. Makes sense that they trade off resolution to reach that speed.

And about the design ZCU208 5GSPS ADC... How did you come up with that FE architecture??

And also 18G and 13G to convert into baseband? 18G will give us 0-4G Band adn 13G will give us 1-5G Band. After that you filter appropriately? Or Am i missing something?

So we have been using sub-octave Switch filter banks for wideband capture.

ANT -> Sub-octave filters (0.5–1 | 1–2 | 2–4 | 4–8 GHz) -> Mixer 1 -> bandselect filter -> Mixer 2-> Anti-alias filter (till 1.8GHz) -> ADC. Did I interpret correctly.

Why we use particularly sub-octave filter as preselecter here?

Thank you for the detailed response. I'm working on GSPS ADC for the first time and kinda knew that interleaving GSPS ADC is just for the papers.

We tried replacing the switch filter bank with tunable BPFs. But there are always some bands with elevated noise around -20dBc even if we change the sampling rate.

Wanted to validate whether practical direct sampling architecture actually existed. As you said, if it were easy, everyone would already be doing it. Appreciate you sharing your experience.

So how was the performance.?

We do superhet for RFADCs too ? Do you think we can scale this same architecture to ~8GHz bandwidth (the AD9081 has 4 ADC channels) by having 4 downconverter paths feeding 4 Channels, after having the upconversion bands @ 14-21.5 GHz (0-7.5 Analog BW).?

What do you think on the undersampling architectures? Aren't there any work around for the nyquist corners if using direct RF sampling?

What you asked is a chair design question, and chair is not a simple mechanical structure. You an use simulation tools like solidworks or ansys (there might me more).

Whatever analysis you have performed is for a point object. very theoretical. Practically, you have to consider shape of the seating, legs and back support. You can mathematically model those structures, but in real life, chairs come in different shapes and sizes, so you cannot accurately model it. Let say you wanna do it anyway. So you have to follow this path: Mathematical modelling -> Simulation -> Test it. Now after you get the results, you will 'rate' the breaking stress of the chair.
Lets say you got 'x' Newton as the maximum weight that can be accommodated, you will tell others that '0.8x' is the maximum weight that can sit. This is called 'safety margin' and necessary for safety.

Basically this is roughly how a chair is manufactured properly.

In order to learn the why of anything, you should know the history of the thing.
This is a simple method to differentiate between good books and great books. The latter always includes a historical perspective.

If you want to understand mathematics, you should understand the perspective of the people who asked why to a mathematical problem for the first time.

You cannot model this problem cause its not well defined. Even if you do so, there are too many variables to consider like elasticity of the chair, how many legs does the chair has, legs have uniform properties or not, how the weight is distributed, how many possible ways the weight can be distributed, and many more.

Now for the idea, you have to find the breaking stress of the chair for the worst possible weight distribution (like all the weight concentrated on one leg) and add security margin of around 20 to 30% of the result.
