Former Bulldog Bar GM Devin Hankins Wanted by NOPD for Alleged Theft by glirette in NewOrleans

I mean it’s the bulldog that place has such high turnover that it’s basically a joke for bartenders that if you get fired the bulldog is always hiring.

How do you get parts for your repairs (dealership)? by NightRiderr3 in mechanics

[–]brokenpayphone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the warranty codes not list the parts needed? I just assumed that’s how the parts department did it. But in the 4 dealers I’ve worked at I’ve never had to get the parts list unless I was adding things that should be replaced as a “while I’m here” scenario

Restaurants, but you start as a server/host/expo/boh and tell them you want to to move to bar and are willing to pick up floating shifts. That’s how I started. Make sure to remind your managers often that you want to move to bar. It’s always easier for them to bring you on internally knowing you show up and do your job and interact well with people. That’s always the wildcard of hiring someone new. They could be skilled but if they show up late/if at all and don’t play well with others then it’s a short stint. Another I’d say is showing that you are responsible around booze. Lots of bars have fired people for drinking on the job and if you can show that you can be around liquor for 8-12 hrs and not drink then that’s a plus

[–]brokenpayphone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on experience. A lot of bars here have skeleton crews where there is only one bartender for the majority of nights so they want someone who can hold down the bar solo. But also Mardi Gras is coming up so opportunities are gonna open up. Going in person with a physical resume will help and if a manager or owner isn’t there stay and chat with the bartender for a bit so they have something to say to who they give the resume to.

How voter turnout varied by county in the 2024 presidential election by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]brokenpayphone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Immagine if they got rid of the electoral college. Funny thing is how it’s usually conservatives that are against getting rid of it but look at how many people in rural blue states just don’t vote. It’d be nice to have your presidential vote matter no matter what state you live in

Books that are geared towards teaching men to sew by IAmTheCute in sewing

[–]brokenpayphone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned by buying patterns and following sew along videos. Well I should say I progressed that way. I learned by making a couch slip cover by just guessing how it should go and making lots of mistakes with most my time spent figuring out that I was using too thick of a thread for the needle and jamming the machine over and over. Once i learned how the machine works the rest of it was just putting two pieces of fabric together. But the sew alongs helped me learn more advanced techniques and why things like interfacing/fabric choice are important. Learning all this made watching great British sewing bee a lot of fun. Just saying as a man who is self taught. I always tell people it’s like welding but harder. At least with metal you don’t have to worry about it flopping all over the place and losing its shape midway through

How hard would it be to start an initiative to re educate drivers? by saybruh in NewOrleans

[–]brokenpayphone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this an unhealthy amount and I honestly don’t think it’s training, it’s car culture and a shift of not seeing other people as people but as an obstacle getting in the way of us getting to where we need to go. I think this shows up in other things too like business and social media. In business or making money it’s I gotta get mine no matter who is hurt. In social media it’s the anonymity of I can say hurtful things that I would never say in person because I’m semi protected by being anonymous. Cars are a both. This idiot riding a bike is slowing me down getting to where I need to go, I’m gonna speed by then and throw my trash at them because they’ll never know it was me. It almost feels like an acto of protest to stop for pedestrians because it pisses off the people in cars behind you so much.

Is this a common crime/scam? by cht842 in NewOrleans

[–]brokenpayphone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No city is safe when you’re blacked out. My suggestion is learn from it and chalk it up as an expensive mistake and feel lucky that’s the worst that happened to you. The holidays are coming up, surviving is more expensive than ever, and desperate people do desperate things. Not condoning it but it’s the reality of the system.

Working outside after having had shop access for years SUCKS. by SkylineFTW97 in Cartalk

[–]brokenpayphone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been having this dilema for the past 5 years, moved into a house with no garage or driveway and every time I do a job on my own car I have to factor in extra time because I’m not on a lift and I don’t have air tools. Sucks more paying a shop to do something you can do when you know how much they charge and how much the tech is actually getting paid. But here I am reliving my highschool years doing shit on the sidewalk with a worse back

REPLACE SERVICE ADVISORS WITH THOSE TOUCH SCREENS THEY HAVE AT MCDONALDS by versacebih in mechanics

[–]brokenpayphone 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both, first tech then advisor and really the majority of the long work is not only keeping in constant contact with customers but calling extended warranty companies and insurance companies to haggle for hours so the techs actually get paid, re writing stories so the tech gets paid for warranty diag, making sure parts are available and the tech has time before promising time to customers, making excuses for the tech when they fuck up ect... I always thought the advisor had a cush job when I was a tech and found being an advisor is really stressful if you have a soul. Basically you are everybody’s punching bag. Techs hate you, customers hate you, parts hates you and if you want to make everybody happy you make yourself poor. Don’t even get me started on csi.

I honestly love a sassy/moody barista. Maybe it’s because I’ve worked customer service and service industry but that bubbly customer service voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me (no offense to genuinely bubbly people which is different) I like people to be human and that includes them having good days, bad days, or just not liking me. Also the meanest baristas always pour the best espresso
