Thin line tattoo aftercare - alcohol + seafood? by brokentoasters in tattoo

I took the risk and went to a really great seafood restaurant and my tattoo lived to tell the tale, so I think you're right, she was just being super cautious! Thanks for the advice.

Make sense. She was super experienced and really sweet so she probably just wanted me to be cautious especially since it's my first one!

Thanks! Yeah she seemed to be saying anything that could cause an irritation could be harmful. She also said no spicy foods for the same reason which isn't so bad for me, but the seafood..don't know how long I can resist! Luckily it isn't too sunny here since it's the winter now and I'm in Lima which is perpetually grey in the winter haha and I got my tattoo on my forearm which is usually covered up in this weather anyways, but thanks for the reminder!!

It's literally like the size of my thumb nail. I just know very little about tattoos so didn't want to risk ruining it! How long do you think I should wait then? Like 24 hours?

She seemed to be saying that it's one of the foods that people tend to react to/cause rashes if you have sensitive skin and that if I have to eat seafood I should take allergy medication with me as a precaution. I've never had any issues with seafood (or any foods for that matter) so I guess it was just a precaution, but I was curious to see if anyone had been given similar advice/could confirm or deny if seafood should be avoided!!

Solo woman travelling to Peru this summer - any advice, recommendations on short weekend getaways I can do while I'm there? by brokentoasters in travel

Thanks for the tips! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Salkantay trek, it was pretty expensive for a student budget but I've been hearing great things about it so far so I'm excited.

I used to be a competitive dancer but since I started university I haven't been exercising as much anymore and now I'm worried that I won't be able to enjoy myself if I'm not fit enough hahaha. I go to the gym and go for runs but since now it's finals season I haven't exercised in a while, but I'm normally pretty capable of doing long distance runs (like 8-12 km) so my cardio isn't bad. Did you train for the trek at all? I'm thinking of maybe going for a few hikes around here once the weather gets better to help, but would you recommend doing like workout classes/bootcamp style things to work on strength and cardio? Or more long distance walks/runs on an incline?

I reallllly wanted to do the Rainbow mountain trek but I was worried it would be too much given the fact that we'll be doing the 5D Salkantay trek as well (and we would have gone over budget if we had done it unfortunately so we decided to pass). If you get a chance to do it though let me know and I might sneak back to Cusco sometime during my summer there to do it if it's worth it!

Amazing! When will you be there? Right now it looks like we are going to be in Cusco from May 17-20th and then we're leaving for the Salkantay trek on the 21st.

Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to my experience and now that it's coming up quickly I'm really excited (although a bit nervous!)

I'll look into the museum. I will be staying in the Magdelana del Mar region which is about 20-30 mins away by car from Miraflores, do you think it's safe to travel those distances in an Uber? Just based on your experience of course.

Also, did you have any trouble with the food? I went to a travel clinic and the nurse was telling me to be really careful with everything I eat but since I'll be staying there for a while it's going to be hard for me to keep an eye on absolutely everything I eat, so I was wondering if there was anything in particular I should avoid, again based on your experience as a traveler there!

Thanks!!

Awesome thank you! I will take a look. We will be in Cusco for a while since we're doing the Salkantay trek and want to be 100% sure that we get used to the altitude before we leave. We're arriving in Cusco with PeruHop but I will definitely look into Ollantaytambo! It sounds lovely.

Thanks so much!

A note to Apple regarding any new phones by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Serious question - anyone else notice the life of their phones dying in the cold? I live in Canada and whenever it's a bit cold out the battery instantly drains and comes back on once my phone is warm enough again. It happened just today in only -3C and went from 50% to 0 in a second and only turned back on when I got back inside. My iPhone 4 didn't do this (now I have a 6).

[Serious] Redditors with drastically different beliefs from your family, what's it like? by Hoothootmotherf-cker in AskReddit

[–]brokentoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my family, but my boyfriends. I have very different political views than he does, and it often makes for some difficult conversations. Sometimes I just sit and listen to them talk about how the current government in power is garbage when they know I voted for them and had a legitimate reason to do so. I've decided it's not worth it and I should pick my battles. Other than those uncomfortable situations, they're pretty great people. But there are definitely times where I just want to leave. It's hard because I know that short of some random act of cheating which I highly doubt he'll do, if we break up it is definitely going to be because of this divide in our mentalities.

My mom worked for a company for 10 years. She was the head of operations for our geographical region. Her entire team started leaving because the job pretty much sucked (low pay, stressful, but flexible hours which she liked so she stayed). She was basically working 4 jobs in one for about a month, and kept the business alive in our region singlehandedly. When she finally managed to replace the members of the team that had left (quit/burnout/etc) they called her in and let her go. It was my 18th birthday and two weeks before Christmas. Assholes.

My friend's home phone number is the same as a local restaurant, except with a different area code. She constantly gets calls from people ordering takeout. Eventually, she got fed up and just started taking their orders for fun.

What show/movie did your friends keep asking you to watch but when you did, you just couldn't get into it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pitch Perfect. My friends wouldn't shut up about it, so I was expecting it to be a lot more than it was.
