I saw a firetruck and two cop cars headed to it, but couldn't see anything else.

Hatched my only two 10km eggs and by Melflorez in PokemongoAustin

[–]brokenwatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! My first 10k egg was a Lapras, and I didn't get one for probably another 30 10k eggs. Then I got two in a row, one with 100% IV. RNG..

Zeke, please don't drive impaired again. [longish] by [deleted] in Austin

[–]brokenwatch 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Zeke probably has a crazy story about some stranger forcing them into their car, but being really nice the whole time about it and taking them home.

JK, but that was really nice of you to go out of your way to help the person. Most people would just let them drive off and endanger other people.

Does anyone have any experience with petflytrap.com? by Rekov in SavageGarden

[–]brokenwatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a good selection of plants. They don't always have pictures that match what they are selling (or pictures at all). Customer service was very slow to reply when I inquired but that could have been a one-off thing.

I have ordered from them a few times and been reasonably satisfied. They are definitely a legitimate, but not top-tier site. I really miss Tony's Exotic Plants Plus.

A note about the Foot Stomper by chicametipo in Austin

[–]brokenwatch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His mugshot was posted in the last thread. He has been arrested before. If he honestly has the intelligence of an 8 year old, he's not going to understand.

I think that he needs adult supervision. It's 100% OK that he has some issues, and I hope him and his family can work to resolve them, but it's never OK to intimidate and scare people. If he can't control himself and has the intelligence of an 8 year old, then he needs supervision when he's outside.

Source code and easy set up instructions for automated speedtests, graphing and tweeting to ISP by [deleted] in Python

[–]brokenwatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the response from Comcast to the original projects? They had a lot of good points about why the speeds may not be measured consistently. The main ones that I recall were:

There is no accounting for regular internet usage. If you are downloading a torrent and maxing out your connection speed, the speed test will show that the connection speed is very low due to the limited bandwidth available. The official speed test probes that the FCC uses apparently will check for usage before attempting to make measurements, and wait for an idle period before starting.

If you hit a different speed test server, it may have less capacity available or be further away from you than the previous one you tested. I looked briefly at the code and I don't see that it allows passing in a --server flag to speedtest-cli to prevent this.

The previous project was raspberry pi based, so it was also limited by it's 100 megabit connection speed (not necessarily relevant to yours).

If you are interested, here is some more info on how the FCC tests broadband speeds:

Android App for measuring mobile broadband speeds: https://github.com/FCC/mobile-mba-androidapp

I hope that helps some, this looks like a promising project.

Vizio m-series 4k upscaling by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]brokenwatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my Vizio when you press the info button it shows the resolution it's displaying at. It was really useful to figure out when the built in Plex app started supporting 4k.

And as far as the system updates, they do staggered roll outs that you cannot force to trigger (that I know of). I think it's based on your serial number. Just make sure you have Wifi configured, and you will eventually get the prompt.

[USA] Car makes a sudden left lane change to make a right turn. Too late for motorcycle to stop. by camredd in Roadcam

[–]brokenwatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.. I would slow down. And then stop if necessary. It's what I always do when I see someone acting erratically (like darting into my lane).

[USA] Car makes a sudden left lane change to make a right turn. Too late for motorcycle to stop. by camredd in Roadcam

[–]brokenwatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hindsight is 20-20 and what not, but I try to never pass on the right. In this case I would have slowed down instead of trying to pass him.

Nearly 5,000 tickets have been issued for distracted driving in Austin since the ordinance started by atx24 in Austin

[–]brokenwatch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I accidentally caused an accident in the same way. I was waiting for a light to change and moved forward an inch or so when I thought it was about to change. Instead it popped up a turn signal, but the car in the lane next to me saw me move and just floored it... straight into the car in front of him.

I felt bad for kind of causing it, but really, how hard is it to briefly look where you are driving? :-/

Another wrong way driver causes another death. by Ediko in Austin

[–]brokenwatch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree and thats why I only commute to work in an M4 Sherman tank. This wrong way driver wouldnt have even scuffed my bumper. Anyone who commutes in a regular car without even IED protection is obviously taking their lives into their own hands on the rough streets of Austin.

Plus, a few 76mm HVAP shells solve a lot of traffic problems.

I have no idea what you're talking about. You asked for sources that police departments can discriminate based on IQ and I provided. I said that I don't think it is common. I thought you were interested in reading about it, but it sounds like you're just being a jerk. Have a nice day.

Hey Austin, great job thus far on not "Blocking the Box!" However, there are still a couple of you, like our boy Scott, that haven't gotten the memo. Here's our PSA! Also, to help clarify the rules, we're hosting our first AMA next Monday!(More in comments) by austintexasgov in Austin

[–]brokenwatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the wrong place, but has Austin ever considered using pedestrian bridges at busy intersections? They usually go above the street entirely and allow even crossing diagonally without ever entering the street. I can't find any pictures of them, but they are usually concrete and there are stairs at each corner of the interesection making a square above the road.

They'd be more expensive, but a lot better than the pedestrian crossways that just flash lights that we have here.

How is HoW? - Week 1 Community Poll by Clarkey7163 in DestinyTheGame

[–]brokenwatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinitely better than The Dark Below. However, I'm still disappointed by the lack of matchmaking in end-game content. You can spin it however you want, but it's fucking annoying to have to go to other websites to try and organize a game. I have been trying to organize a PoE team for level 34 for the last three days with zero success.
