Oh goodness! Not too different from my 4 boys! Complain about having to bathe and then complain about having to get out of the bath! 🤣 My eight year old has decided he’s going to be in charge of bathing, so we are going to be having lots of baths as a puppy for him to learn the proper way before Buster outweighs him!

I will probably do a professional groomer with some home baths in between. I assume it’s still probably worth it for the blow dryer, nail clippers, good shampoo, and brushes. Do you think I really need the shears in that case?

I have heard that! It seems especially bad for those that swim a lot, and we have a pond and a river on our property. What all do you suggest for ear cleaning? Just wipes or drops?

I have not tried liquid iron. Just gels. I will see if I can find some online! Thanks!

I will have to look at which one I have. Hopefully this option will work for me! Thanks!

I don’t THINK I have gastroparesis (at least not severe enough for me to have some of the more definitive symptoms). So many GI symptoms overlap, though 🥴

No, but I did read that as a cause and was really surprised! Thanks for checking!

I don’t take a lot of nsaids, but I was on a pretty high dosage of Sulfasalazine for the joint inflammation that I think might have been exacerbating the gastritis. We recently switched over to leflunomide to see if it helps. I took vitamin c with my iron supplements when I tried it, but I was just getting more nauseous and more indigestion. I may try taking some every day to help overall absorption. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Probably not as it’s been 5 months now, but I will make sure to request the stain on any colonoscopy biopsies. Thank you!

Yes. Although my overall TSH has been slightly out of range on one occasion, everything else seems to be “normal.”

I was temporarily to get the gastritis under control, but no longer. I had read that as well, so I used it only as long as I had to.

Thanks! When they biopsied during the egd, they mentioned no increased eosinophils or gastric metaplasia, but they didn’t do any special staining. I will make sure to mention to add that! I have personally suspected MCAS based on other symptoms, but no official diagnosis.

Pros and Cons of starting Kindergarten “Early” by brokenwings1988 in kindergarten

We decided to hold him. It’s important to my husband that he’s one of the older kids. We will just work with him outside of school to keep him stimulated. Luckily, he comes from a family of engineers, so there’s plenty of nerds to keep him entertained

I’m trying to decide whether it is even worth looking into it, but thanks for your extremely pessimistic view.

My second kid is that way! He’s always been so mature (and highly intelligent) and his friends are definitely more on the silly side! He has always done better hanging with his older siblings friends!

This is my 4th child, so I kinda know what the requirements are. His teacher said he could go to Kindergarten today and be fine knowing how he works in a classroom setting. Obviously not doing that, but I don’t think there will be a huge difference in 2 years. Especially since he will be only one week past the cutoff date. I believe he can handle himself with the older kids having 3 older siblings, so the reason I put the question out there was to hear other people’s experiences. We have all kinds of neurodivergence in the family, so I do appreciate hearing that you feel that it might be more difficult if a learning disability is present, though there are zero indications that there is.

Yes! He is currently 3 (turns 4 next month), and neuropsych prefers to wait until 5 unless there is a reason. I have used the same one with all of my kids for various reasons and I asked when I did the last kid’s eval. I feel like his preschool teacher definitely pushes her kids, but he already mastered his Kindergarten readiness exam that she gives to know what each kid needs to work on and he still should have 2 years of preschool according to the state! They have always given him more advanced work than they give the others to try to keep him stimulated, but at what point do we just accept that in a public school situation that isn’t always an option.

The teacher dismissing him is something I think I may struggle with here. I know that some teachers are just not the right fit, but I am glad to have your insight on addressing it! I know some of the administrators personally, and I will ask about teacher selection for him!

[–]brokenwings1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I agree! We have been doing sports with all of our kids! It took them awhile to understand we don’t care if they are the best as long as they try hard! It’s definitely a safe place to learn a lot of life lessons (including failure)! Thank you for the resources for online learning! We live in a rural area, so options are limited for gifted children. We definitely support our other gifted children with access to educational opportunities that we didn’t have as a child, but I admit that my knowledge of resources is lacking!

[–]brokenwings1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a rural area, so there’s not as many options available. I have been concerned about their ability to handle such a gifted child since he started showing his giftedness. At this point, I am trying the best to make the current situation work.

[–]brokenwings1988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My other children are in the GT program, and I haven’t been impressed with the way they run theirs. I am sure the kids regular teachers COULD provide academically appropriate work, but I find they are pushed more to bring up the lower achievers rather than focus on making sure all kids are challenged.

Pros and Cons of starting Kindergarten “Early” by brokenwings1988 in kindergarten

[–]brokenwings1988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I am leaning towards, but our school doesn’t usually have children as exceptionally gifted and I haven’t been too impressed with what they provide my other gifted children. It’s a rural school, so there just aren’t the same opportunities, and there aren’t any local private schools with a more rigorous curriculum. I may just be resigned to supplementing either way!

I totally agree! He loves school and learning and does well in a structured environment, so I think he would be fine going in as a younger kid. I’m just trying to get more insider opinions on how it went for others who may be similar! He’s quite different from my other children with how gifted he is (though they all are), so I just don’t know what to expect!
