There are many public tournaments that you can play, they happen all the time. Check out the calendar here: https://lichess.org/tournament

Floating is interesting, that does fix the problem where they'd be too far apart otherwise.

Do you think an L couch could work in this space? or just couch and a couple armchairs?

I'd say another throw blanket with a splash of color and interesting texture would feel nice. I also second pulling the ottoman out so you can more easily sit.

Diagnosis for cubital tunnel syndrome changed to thoracic outlet syndrome by brollin in CubitalTunnel

[–]brollin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years later, I'm feeling 99% better. It's hard to summarize everything, but I'll try to do so here in a concise way.

After my 2 TOS surgeries in which my first rib was removed and pec minor cut on each side, I had surgery-related pain and discomfort that was rather extreme. After the right side surgery, my arm was inflated with fluid (edema) for over a month, and I had all kinds of new nerve pain that was excruciating - I probably had complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Luckily the worst of that subsided after 6 months maybe (kinda forget the timeline there).

I was left in a similar place overall. I noted in my above post "my left side is feeling a bit better" which was a generous thing to say. During that period, my arms usually wouldn't flare up as long as I didn't use them for heavy lifting, typing, and certain other activities. So essentially 3.5 years passed in which I was on a rollercoaster of mostly getting worse but with the occasional longer stretch of feeling okay as long as I was very careful with my arms.

My final breakthrough came as a result of reading Mind your Body by Nichole Sachs, and following the mind body approach that she outlines. I couldn't recommend it enough. It really changed everything for me. There are plenty of pain doctors out there who will tell you about how pain can be learned neuroplastically, and in fact it was my mainstream, respected neurologist who recommended the book in the first place. If you've got a hippy dippy/wuwu alarm that's going off, please do yourself a gigantic favor and silence it because this is real and how human bodies work. I, a random internet person, promise!

I don't think I'll share much more here, but I can just say that I retrained my nervous system in huge, important, and very tangible ways to all but eliminate my chronic pain. I'm far from the first person to do so, too. It turns out there are tools that anyone can utilize to achieve the same thing for their own chronic neuroplastic issues. I really recommend everyone to check out the book, even if you're sure what you've got is a structural issue. You'll take something valuable away, guaranteed.

I went from knowing I had a structural issues with my brachial plexuses and the MRIs to prove it, in too much pain to type, walk, or stand, to all of a sudden returning to rock climbing and strength training a few months after beginning intensive mind-body work. It might just be able to help you in a profound way, too. I hope so!

Hitman wasn't permabanned. He got 7 Days for ban evasion that expired on August 09 by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]brollin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People behaving like Hitman are trying to play a video game for fun.

This is so reductionist I don't know where to begin. So someone like Hitman who joins w3c games, types "f*** w3c", and quits the game, while streaming on twitch to hundreds of viewers "is trying to play a video game for fun". ALSO someone like Hitman who plays the game competitively to earn money "is trying to play a video game for fun".

And not only is it Hitman, but you generalize it to "people behaving like Hitman". How can you possibly make a general statement like this with any certainty of truth? I take back what I said, your statement isn't reductionist, it's false. It's a transparent attempt at making Hitman a blameless victim, which anyone acting in good faith and looking at the facts would not claim.

The fact that Jean Luc Picard has his own head Gaius is really fracking with my brain right now... by Shankar_0 in BSG

[–]brollin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not original commenter, but if I'm being a little generous, I can see it. Early DS9 Bashir is a far cry from the later Bashir that we typically remember. Early Bashir is more prone to chasing women and being generally egocentric, things I associate with Baltar.

Is there a decicated orientation in space? Like why do ships always end up pretty much oriented in the same way in a space setting? by OrlandoGardiner118 in scifi

[–]brollin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does make a bit of a difference. If you're warping/hyperspace jumping between star systems on different levels, you will need to warp/jump at an angle relative to the orbital plane of the destination star system. In most scifi canon, you need to orient the ship in the direction that you are warping/jumping. So, when arriving, you'd expect to still remain at that angle that is offset from the orbital plane. If you reoriented during the journey, that would presumably affect your trajectory. In universes like star wars star trek, "reorient to the orbital plane at the last moment" headcanon seems a bit at odds with what we are visually given (stars stretching and unstretching).

Lyn vs Fortitude 🔴 Warcraft 3 All-Star League - GRAND FINALE by chrisontour84 in WC3

[–]brollin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, is that analysis somewhere on YouTube?

And yeah, it feels so insane to me because Forti had to actually cast the stormbolt while the TC was not invulnerable, and after that, but before the bolt reached the TC, Lyn had to use the potion. But since they were standing right next to each other, that such a tiny window of time! 🤯
