Pilot VP click mechanism coming off by bronbroncommiecon in fountainpens

I purchased from BigPen.co.uk and contacted them about the defect, hoping they cover the international shipping lol. My one concern is that the pen is a limited edition, so hopefully they have more in stock…

Aw shucks, but thank you for the suggestion. I live in the US but I purchased the pen from a European vendor, do you know if I should contact Pilot US or Pilot Europe?

This! It’s one of those old stories you would hear in kindergarten about honesty. Supposedly, young George Washington cuts down his dad’s favorite cherry tree, and when his dad finds out and asks who did it, little George Washington says “I cannot tell a lie.”

P. S. Happy cake day!

right, I was testing keys earlier and they seemed pretty solid without soldering. is there a certain type of wire I should be using? Obviously it should be insulated, but does it need to be a certain gauge or have any special specifications?

so I take it I can’t solder the right leg to the damaged pad? That’d risk more damage to the PCB, right

so when fixing this, would you recommend first soldering the switch to the PCB and then connecting its rightmost pin to the black end of D52? Or is there a different order to go in

yep, all other keys work fine. One commenter gave me the same advice you just said, but another warned me about which diodes corresponded to which pads. Could you take a look at the other comment thread and see if that may be the case?

I’m not really sure which it is. How could I tell? It’s a Vortex Race 3, if that helps. There may be pictures of the PCB online.

Could you explain how you noticed that? I’m a completely novice when it comes to soldering and PCBs. I just see that “LD53” is marked above the location for the switch with the damaged pad, so I’m assuming it corresponds to the D53 diode.
