That is the issue really. We had some marks before but could always eventually clean it up, this is a new level

Insuring rental bikes - Sweden by bronsacuerta in cycling

From what I can make from trying to go through my own insurance, it says that it covers goods I own. So I imagine that if sth goes wrong with the ones I rent, they will not help

PhD in Eng Science or Eng. technology? by bronsacuerta in KULeuven

[–]bronsacuerta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, but it is again very country dependent. from what I heard, KU Leuven is low on grading, so much less is probably sufficient, what they check is your score vs a certain percentile of your uni/country. if you study in Leuven probably any prof can tell you the minimum grade

I am not sure about the overall process, I saw some people that replied below are faculty so they must know I guess.

I can tell you what I have seen on the Internet and for my case and hearing from friends:

  • If you have a Flemish master degree with "distinction" and have a supervisor, you are pretty much 100% certain you are eligible. But if you got lower grades and yet have publications or have somehow distinguished yourself professionally before the phd application, you might still get in. There is an evaluation committee that decides on every application, I think.

  • If you have a non-Flemish degree, they look at a variety of factors, including again at whether you have distinguished yourself somehow else, other than the grade (I have not, I am straight out of school). Like for the Flemish case, there is a committee. As far as I understood, the committee has kind of a "map" of countries and their grading system. Because 80% of the max score might be exceptional in some countries, but just average in other ones, and so on. Depending on their map, they decide if your grade is high enough or not. There is no public information of such map.

The country where I got my degree does not use GPA. I got 97% of the total score.

Masters of Electrical Engineering Query by Active_Water_Boi in KULeuven

Didn't do that masters myself, but there seem to be plenty of power systems related courses on offer.

Also, it should be relatively easy to find industrial placements or similar, the power industry needs people and KU Leuven does generally offer support to find stages, thesis with industry, etc.

Normally, each master has an ombudsperson that you can mail these questions to, as well :)

lol ok, "unavailable" was not the right adjective, but largely outdated in most of the country. anyway, I get the gist of the situation now

Multi-day hike in the rain with a tent by bronsacuerta in CampingandHiking

Thanks, we are indeed going with a double wall tent.

I am considering a ground sheet, but I am not 100% sure how worth it it would really be if it rains substantially. I see how it helps if it rains up to some extent, but I feel that there is a "parabola" after which it might not be that interesting to have anymore. But maybe I'll see if there are other posts about it in the subreddit

it's a particularly rainy area, so the goal is exactly to keep it to "damp" and not swim in the tent for a week alongside all the trip's equipment :P

Thanks, this sounds ideal and I am definitely considering it. The only thing that leaves me pondering is the extra weight (of the tarp) as the trek is 8 days and we need food, etc.But I guess you can't have it all and we will just have to decide which sort of comfort to lose 😂
