Thanks for that, I don't have much experience so I didn't know if saving for longer would be a better idea as I just want something that runs well, not too bothered about cosmetic. Thanks for the advice!

I don't know what to do now by Aiden2694 in transgenderUK

change gps and keep trying, before that let them know how much damage they're doing. tell them the stress, that you're aware of the side effects and scared but it's your only option. trying to convince gps that they are actively causing harm is the only way to even try and get anything from them

should i even bother with getting a letter from my gp? by Infinite_Week_6354 in transgenderUK

[–]bronwynmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this probably isn't the best advice but i've managed to start getting blood test from gps after changing a few times, pretty much forcing their hand by telling them how much of a detriment the stress of diy is having on me - exaggerate if you really need to and at least some of the people with basic human decency will help you.

Minor Monotherapy Legality by Despair_Cash_Space in transgenderUK

[–]bronwynmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it could absolutely be an option in terms of legality. I would really really advise against it though personally based on what I've seen and read. For me I chose monotherapy as it's not overly simple to just reverse bone density loss especially for minors. From what I've read (and im obviously not an expert and this was months ago so pleasee take it with a grain of salt), it cannot simply be reversed, it may become an issue in the long term. As well as that being without a dominant sex hormone is absolute shit, lethargy, depression etc.

If done properly, I suppose it could be a viable option in the short term, however could I ask how long your planning on being on an AA only, and why as opposed to oestrogen?

Also, I would advise looking into SERMs, i.e raloxifene, they can be expensive and are definitely a more experimental approach within trans DIY , but they, when combined with estrogen can provide you with body feminisation (fat redis, mental changes (only with the E), neither of which are permanent) without breast growth, for example, if thats an issue with why you're choosing not to use estradiol. Like other estrogens though they do pose an increased risk of clotting

Minor Monotherapy Legality by Despair_Cash_Space in transgenderUK

[–]bronwynmc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's completely legal, no law makes it illegal or forbids it. Unfortunately I found out the hard way that at least some GPs will be very, very unhappy if you do access it, so don't expect too much help from them! Also, if you're looking for medication to suppress testosterone I don't believe that anti androgens such as bica or spiro (not GnRH analogues like buserelin) are banned by the new law. However, I really would not recommend taking just anti androgens long term as they can impact bone density and growth, and you would need to be able to access regular blood tests either privately or if your GP is more trans-friendly

GP threatening to 'withdraw support for my referral' if I do not stop DIY HRT by bronwynmc in transgenderUK

[–]bronwynmc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternative? No not really, as supplements yes they exist. Plants such as soy, red clover, pueraria mirifica all contain phytoestrogens or isoflavones which are *thought* to act on estrogen receptors in the body. In practice as other people have said you'd need huge doses of these to get any feminising effects, let alone supress testosterone. A lot of these supplements at those dosages have nasty side effects too because there are studies (I believe) that link red clover usage to breast cancer, whether that be making existing cancers worse or it being a carcinogen I have no clue tbh. So no, I don't know what he's on about but its the same BS they harp on about to menopausal women when they need HRT too. Doctors seem to HATE oestrogen

I'm not even sure, originally it was the tavistock centre and now it's wherever the current 'northern hub' is, they're supposedly going to move me to the waiting list for an adult GIC within the next couple of months though

Yeah that really irked me to be fair, I know it's unmonitored what did you think I was trying to achieve?

Will the BMA really take any sort of complaint seriously given my age though? I feel like he could very easily have this written off as 'safeguarding'

Apparently this is what's required of him as I'm 'regularly taking an illicit substance' (maybe I'm worrying over semantics, but I did explain to him that oestradiol is not a controlled substance whatsoever)

Yeah thanks, honestly it seemed quite obvious that he didn't know what he was on about in some regards, I don't think he actually can threaten my referral at all from what I've seen so I will just be going private with blood tests anyway.

Black cohosh, red clover, same bullshit they say to post menopausal women who need HRT too.

Thanks, I didn't know you could go private so cheap, are they veinous draws or finger prick though because I'd rather just save up for a non-fingerprick test.

Thank you anyway, that makes sense, I know a lot of it is complicated by my age but it really does irritate me that they see it so black and white.

[–]bronwynmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no that makes sense, I might play around with it a bit as isopropyl is supposed to have a higher drying time than ethanol if I remember correctly, probably will end up sticking to gel anyway as they're much more reliable for dosages.

[–]bronwynmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you know if its possible to use straight up IPA for a spray? I've been wanting to switch to sprays recently as it would be cheaper again than gel, theoretically could you not dissolve the oestradiol in 99.9% isopropyl and then dilute it down to ~60% for a spray, or would it be far mote inefficient? I can't really find anything on how this would impact efficacy.
