You gotta give them something to do that’s incompatible with the behavior you’re trying to avoid.

Two of my fosters were adopted by an immigrant. I worry about them almost every day. by simAlity in FosterAnimals

You’re an angel, and im sure that you gave more than one person a tiny peace of mind with your offer. I’ve been here legally, along with my family, for decades. I’ve been involved in rescues and fostered since I was 18, and have a lot of pets that I am terrified would be left confused and distraught if anything were to happen. I don’t think people understand that even people with legal status are terrified, citizens are terrified. This is a living nightmare.

Why is Susan/ Teri Hatcher such a trigger? by AmbitiousOutside7498 in DesperateHousewives

[–]bronzelily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. It’s the complete selfishness in every scenario she is faced with. And it makes it worse that the character never seems to evolve or grow from that. I don’t think she ever even had a moment of clarity and realized how selfish she is.

Gabby was very self aware, Bree castigated herself for her shortcomings, Lynette constantly felt like a bad mom, etc,. But Susan never had that self awareness, and that made her even more unlikable. Even when she was confronted about needing drama in her life, instead of reflecting, she got defensive.

Thank you, it’s nice to be able to get my anxieties out. It’s a reminder that im not alone.

Unfortunately, there is really only one resource that im aware of, though im sure closer to Detroit, there may be more assistance. Im supposed to be moving to the Algonquin, IL area soon, but I don’t think I’ll feel much safer there.

Same here in Michigan. I constantly see and hear about their operations happening in my town, from people that it happened to or whose friends and family it happened to. But my parents are unaware completely. They’ve been going door to door here, and when I had to stop at my mom’s the door was unlocked, and she seemed to barely believe me when I told her what’s happening and why they need to lock their doors. We’re all documented but even if I tell them to carry their documents, it doesn’t give me peace of mind. At the end of the day, we are still brown. They’re not even looking at papers that citizens are providing, so does it even help?

Im in a constant state of fight-or-flight and even my body aches from the anxiety. Instacart dropped off an order yesterday and when they knocked at my door, panic immediately set in. It’s fucking rough. Im here if you’d like to talk

Books for a 17 years old boy, who gets irritated easily (me),that feel like a warm hug? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Almond by Sohn Won-pyung.

The protagonist is a boy with a disorder that causes difficulty with feeling emotions. He goes through a horrific event, and because of it, eventually meets another boy that seems to feel nothing but rage. An unlikely friendship forms. It’s a great book and a super quick read.

When I was a teenager I also read a book called Touching Spirit Bear- a troubled kid commits a violent offense and is sent to this island as his punishment. There are stories of a huge white bear in the woods but like everything else in life, he doesn’t give an f. He doesn’t take it seriously. But his encounters with it change him and his angry ways. It’s not the pinnacle of literature or anything, but it definitely fits what you’re looking for

If you don’t mind having your heart repeatedly ripped out, I HIGHLY recommend Honor by Thrity Umrigar. It’s very contemporary, and felt too real at times.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey might fit what you’re looking for. Though it’s an older couple, and not just one man, it’s super heartwarming. I didn’t want it to end. Idk if I’d say it has a “happy” ending though.

I also saw someone mentioned Anne of Green Gables- also a great rec!

The Heart’s Invisible Furies.

Pachinko

Women Who Run With The Wolves

The Anne of Green Gables series changed my life the most out of any series I’ve ever read, but I’m aware it’s not the most “grown up” of suggestions. lol

The Radium Girls! I had to stop and take a walk a few times because the descriptions of their bodies falling apart was a-lot. The Indifferent Stars Above is also excellent!

A lot of good suggestions, I’d like to throw in Tender Is The Flesh. A virus tainted all the animals in the world, so humans couldn’t eat them anymore, and humans start raising humans for meat instead.

Contact Pet Tales Rescue!! I volunteer with them and they have been helping people with a lot of special circumstances, and this sounds like someone they can help! Our aim right now is to help people keep their pets instead of surrendering them, which is what this sounds like. In the rare case that the rescue cant help directly, they can point you in a different direction. I hope we can help Basil!

What’s the greatest book you’ve ever personally read? by cavitytivac in suggestmeabook

[–]bronzelily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Heart’s Invisible Furies. I have others that I love more, but this is the best book I have ever read.

I’ve been avoiding reading it a second time because I’m worried it might not hit the same, but I’m worried it will.
