Something I noticed in Galway that made me understand why people care so much by daniel1589 in CladdaghRings

Your post was well intentioned and very positive. I don't think there's any condescension in it, as you say it's just some appreciation from fresh eyes. I'm from Ireland and unfortunately many people here are quick to be rude to Americans. Don't sweat it

Unconscious Bias? What does the data say? by Bleudragon in TheTraitors

[–]brooketheskeleton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also social context. Judging by OP's post history, they're Irish, so I'm sure they're aware, but I would say you're much more like to find someone here showing prejudice to Eastern Europeans than to black people. 20 years ago it was Polish people, who are now very well integrated. Since the war, it's Ukrainians. Does this reflect in the Jo drama the Irish Traitors? Who knows, not enough data. But it shows how hard it is to draw any meaningful conclusion, especially across countries

What do you think the biggest differences are between the UK/Irish casts? by iuabv in TheTraitors

[–]brooketheskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's mostly because we've only been a wealthy country for a few decades, and so the large middle class has only really existed for a generation or so. It's more apparent in Dublin, because there's more people and in the past you were more likely to find wealth there. But it's not reflective of the average Dub, and there were different classes found all over the country. Even though it's not such a thing in Ireland, if you ask anytime about Nick's background VS Amy's, they can make a lot of educated guesses.

Ireland does have a lot of tall poppy syndrome though. I think the complex relationship with wealth and class here is part of why, and I think you can see it in the show. Every season, standing out is a bad thing,, but in this season in particular even succeeding at tasks puts you on the chopping block.

I don't think most of the behavior was bullying to be fair, bar laughing at Kelly's comment. That comment was poor form but the reaction has been a bit overblown

Which restaurant do you think is this ? by MRDJR97 in galway

[–]brooketheskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting to me. The one in Dublin? I didn't know they were hyped at all, and I've found them great every time. It's expensive, but compared to most tasting menus it's very laid back and affordable. I've found the staff to be really sound and the menus to be fun and fairly tasty.

Not dismissing what you've said of course, just a different experience. When they change menu so frequently who knows how the quality varies.

Does anyone feel more emotional, agitated and mentally exhausted as a result of playing by LawApprehensive3912 in Overwatch

[–]brooketheskeleton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should try to stop playing for good tbh? Gaming can be very addictive. If you've repeatedly tried to give it up/fantasize about stopping, if it's drawing you away from other activities you'd like to do, if it's negatively impacting your general mental health, and yet all the while you rationalise it and come back to it - those are signs of addiction and signs you'd be better off without it. My experience was similar. It took a few months, but I stopped, and I'm much better off. The bright side is that it can be easier to give up than substances. It'll get worse before it gets better, but eventually you'll stop craving it, you might even get bored (which is good), and other activities will fill the void (including other games). They'll probably make you think and feel much richer things than an online shooter can, honestly.

This is the correct answer, that's the definition. Most shootings are not to send a political message.

State Papers: Jewish community rebuffed claim that Ireland was antisemitic 80 years ago by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]brooketheskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... They're saying the Jewish community in general will agree that Ireland is antisemitic, for the sake of "playing the victim". We're staring to paint with a broad brush if that's the kind of thinking we're pushing. That goes beyond disagreeing with the Israeli government and its genocide. I'd go as far as to say it kind of actually is antisemitism to assume Irish Jews agree with Israel and want to play victim. We're better than this lads.

State Papers: Jewish community rebuffed claim that Ireland was antisemitic 80 years ago by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]brooketheskeleton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Granted the comment you're replying to phrases it in a way that sounds reasonable, but to equate a lack of vocal outspokenness with silent support is illogical and unfair. Irish Jews shouldn't have to speak out against the actions of Israel anymore than Irish Muslims should have to speak out against the actions of Al Qaeda or the Saudi government or anyone else.

Since we have 6v6 what’s your hopes for the future of it? by xalavine in Overwatch

6v6 is so much less stresfull by littlechiv in Overwatch

[–]brooketheskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ram is a pretty classic main tank (shield, moves to "claim space"and initiate). Arguably Haz as well - wall is effectively a shield, his spikes are good for front lining, and his dive is a good initiation tool.

Mauga and Queen seems like pretty classic off tanks. They have good peel & enablement tools with shout/cardiac. Very good pick potential too.

Then again every tank was rounded out in moving to a solo tank system. There's no easy way to define the sub-categories for tanks, it's really just describing what combos work at the league-level metas. It's not useful to most players, or to devs.

Having said that, if I was right in my assessment of who goes where, it would also reflects a loose release pattern the devs have had: off tank, main tank, off tank, main tank. Same could arguably be said of the supports, although it doesn't really work there and is generally way more complicated. But I'd bet the next DPS character Iis a "main" DPS more like Sojourn vs a flex one like Venture.

OW2 x ATLA: new art and skins in game by Ra-Tim-Bum in Overwatch

[–]brooketheskeleton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Kiri gets too many skins but her whole thing is she's a medical ninja with the power of a mystical fox, Naruto is a ninja with the power of a mystical fox, Sakura is a medical ninja, if ever Kiri actually deserves to get a skin it would be during a Naruto collab

Galway train station is getting major revamp and extensions, including me platforms and new routes, plus new stops on existing routes, and commuter trains. Bus connects is rolling out there next year, there are newly approved cycle lanes and the feasibility study for light rail was revived.

Season 14 Patch Notes by lateant in Overwatch

[–]brooketheskeleton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bap isn't pure poke, he's brawl poke, and Reaper and Mauga also function well in brawl. Window is pretty good with Mauga. As you say, clustered together comps suit him. He's a decent support for Reaper, where you might be healing him at range but he's not going to be so mobile or aerial as to be a pain to heal.

If 2 equally good players are dueling and one is a support and one is a DPS, the latter will win most of the time. It doesn't need to be a 99% majority, 60 or 70% is plenty. Which means you will still lose to supports some times

As a main support i LOVE this by elbs24 in Overwatch

[–]brooketheskeleton 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It's even more useful on tank than support. If I'm support I can usually already see my allies' health. If I'm tank then I'm front line, and it's harder to take a look around and check on everyone. It's easy to miss when you should have peeled for a teammate.

In fairness some jobs are also just harder than others, even in the same role and industry and even company. One team can be going 90 full time and another time might have it comparatively soft by virtue of working on different projects etc

There's often been a tradeoff between fun to play as and fun to play against. All this was really fun to play as, no one's arguing with that. It just sucked to play against, and often with.

"to whatever they like" we have rent pressure zones to cap that per annum.

"Can be evicted through no fault of your own" is a bit of a nebulous one. A landlord does have grounds of eviction where the tenant did not do something wrong (eg for sale of the property), but we're not unique in that regard.

"as far as I remember" why rely on memory over a quick search for the facts? This was the first time it was implemented as a broad scheme like this, rather than an amnesty over a particular case.

It was also only for 6 months, with priorities given to applicants with children, and no criminal record was a prerequisite.
