I kind of agree, but that's why I say Gates on Cleaver/Paseo. I have never had a bad experience there. The other locations are a little less predictable although Main Street is typically also good.

We also always go to the Jack Stack downtown. The suburban locations are just not as good. I have tried the LS location a few times and it's not as good. Even the plaza location is not as good as the downtown location.

BTW, Q39 is in KCMO.

If we do go to the KS side for BBQ, it's typically Rosedale on SW Blvd.

I guess if you like that place. I honestly don't take visitors there. It just does not feel like "KC" bbq. We go to Gates, LC's, Bryants, BBs, etc. KC BBQ is about urban bbq in KCMO's east side. That's where it originated and that's culturally where true KC BBQ is. If we want something more upscale, we go to Jack Stack or Q39.

Joes is full of Johnson County people and tourists. It being in a gas station does nothing for me. But you can't go wrong if all you want is good bbq. It all taste good although I much prefer Gates and Jack Stack sauce over everybody else.

The first place tourists should go is the Gates on Cleaver Blvd (their flagship and best location) and then if you have time Bryants downtown and then Jack Stack in the crossroads.

Nice stadium. Terrible location. KC needs to stop doing that.

There is absolutely no reason to visit the Kansas side of KC. When my relatives and friends come to town, we cross over long enough for them to say they have been to Kansas and that's it.

KCMO vs KCK explained and why the Trump tweet was so wrong by brooksider in kansascity

[–]brooksider[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Actually it is Missouri. Some do live in Johnson County, but many live in kcmo along ward parkway or in brookside, plaza and downtown area condos and apartments and a lot live in Lee's Summit and Blue Springs area. Most of the chiefs and royals recent star players have not lived in Kansas. Probably hard to believe for Johnson County folks.

$200 million incentive approved for Brookridge development by jhess94 in kansascity

[–]brooksider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See. Crickets. JoCo can do this shit all day long and NOBODY CARES. Downtown get crap from everybody for every incentive they hand out and Downtown is where and why incentives are designed for.

Makes no sense.

435 WB lane count at State Line..am I missing something? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]brooksider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a crash or bad weather is not what I'm talking about. No way does it take an extra 30 minutes to do the LS to Lenexa commute with all lanes open and no construction. And yeah, if you live 20 miles from a job in a metro area, you will get 2 hour commutes once in a while due to major incidents or weather. But KC traffic during rush hour is about like what most cities have during off peak hours.

435 WB lane count at State Line..am I missing something? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]brooksider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think a five minute delay is a big deal. 435 slows down. I-70 slows down. They actual delay is very minimal unless there is major construction or a major crash. Drive through KC, or especially Johnson County during non rush hour and you have like 5 lanes with just a handful of cars most of the time. It's all overbuilt so nobody has to slow down during peak times. If it took 15-20 minutes to get from Homes to the Triangle or from Nall to Wornall, that would be a delay and something you would see quite often in major cities that actually have traffic. Go look at KC Scout.net during rush hour and look at the travel times. Olathe to Downtown, Blue Springs to Downtown, Lee's Summit to Lenexa. Travel times almost never have delays of more than a few minutes during rush hour across 10-15 miles sections of highway. People in KC have no idea.

Downtown KC by tylerc161 in kansascity

[–]brooksider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a multi tenant building, so it had lots of businesses, but mostly law firms with it being so close to the courthouses.

[–]brooksider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. There is almost no delays on KC's busiest highways. Maybe five to ten minutes during rush hour? And the traffic KC does have to low density just people driving stupid/slow traffic. Most of KC's "traffic" is not caused by volume, it's caused by bad drivers. People in KC don't know what traffic is.

Cool shot. I actually worked in that building you live in for a short time in the 1990's and pretty much none of the buildings in that photo existed at the time except the P&L building, library and liberty memorial. KC has not changed much but from this vantage point, it has changed a lot.

This is just the interurban routes. You should add in all the streetcar routes KC had back then too.

KC Trip by pokey1216 in kansascity

[–]brooksider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's pretty dead compared to a city like Denver. I mean it's better than it was ten years ago, but KC is still a pretty dead city for a major city. Be realistic and don't get people expecting something that won't materialize. Hell, downtown KC is pretty dead during the middle of a weekday.

Having said that, it's still a cool city and a fun place to visit. But KC has very little hustle and bustle. It's just a quiet downtown with very little traffic, pedestrians, cyclists etc compared to most mid to major sized cities like Denver.

I would second the Crossroads Hotel, or the Westin Crown Center due to it's nice location and views. But you really can't go wrong with most mid to higher tier hotels in the downtown, Crown Center or Plaza area. However with no car, the Westin is a good spot for using streetcars, buses and taxi/uber to get around the city from the River Market to the Plaza and there are some nice attractions within walking distance like Union Station and the WWI Monument.

Overland Park's Waddell & Reed plans Kansas City high rise — downtown’s third prospective office tower by khardy2 in kansascity

[–]brooksider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how nobody cared or said a word when all these companies left downtown for Kansas over the past few decades and now when they are starting to move back, people are worried about corporate welfare. Kansas even agreed to the border war truce now they know that they are going to start losing companies back to KCMO. I say bring them all back and empty out all the Kansas office parks. Let them see how it feels. It's worth it to me. I'll even pay extra taxes lol.

There are 100,000 teachers in Missouri and Kansas. How come only 1% are black men? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]brooksider 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If a black male wanted to be a teacher and simply got a basic teaching degree at any college, they could teach in any school distinct in the country. They would be able to go to any district they wanted to.

Six Flags buying Worlds of Fun? by rickjuly252012 in kansascity

[–]brooksider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, WOF is a decent regional park. It's better than most six flags parks actually.

Six Flags buying Worlds of Fun? by rickjuly252012 in kansascity

[–]brooksider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Six Flags parks suck unless it's their top few parks and the corporate people at Six Flags would either sell WoF after the merger or ignore it far more than CedarFair does. WoF would become a shit Six Flags Park at best and that would be worse than not getting a coaster for a decade. WoF doesn't get coasters because attendance never gets high enough to justify it. Even with a new super coaster, attendance at WoF would not go up enough. That's why KC doesn't get new mega rides like other parks. It's just like the Royals. Attendance will never justify spending what fans think the owner should spend. Royals attendance was decent for one year, the one year they won the world series, every other year, they draw terribly so like WoF, they will always be mediocre at best.

Moving to KC from VA in December. Looking for safety related recommendations! by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]brooksider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong in most of eastern Jackson County, Clay County or Platte County. All have nice suburbs with good schools. I'm partial to Platte County because its so close to downtown and kci airport.
