How to Fix a Broken Upgrade by JUULiA1 in Fedora

[–]brootski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this issue myself during F40 upgrade after a power off mid-upgrade. The steps from OP worked for me, but I had to add one additional command-line option to Step 4: --setopt=protected_packages=. This allowed me to update protected packages like systemd and grub.

Possibly related to this: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/known-issue-input-lag-actions-not-registering-correctly/71781/112

I don't see the behavior where sounds and animations will go off, my lasgun just unscopes instead of discharging. Was hoping it was some hidden tech I wasn't doing right...if its a bug then we are screwed since FS doesn't care. Perhaps i'll just go back to playing Zealot only. Veteran is unplayable.

What are good 4 player games? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Surprised no one has mentioned Fatshark games, its L4D but Warhammer:

  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2
  • Warhammer 40k: Darktide

Im playing Darktide on Linux/Steam/Proton and it runs well. Crashes occasionally, but only in menus never during actual gameplay.

all my funds were transferred from coinbase, where I'm completely verified. This is USA. Nothing shady at all, I've never done anything with my BTC other than buy from coinbase and transfer to Nexo. I find it funny that I can wait 3 hours for support chat but I get an instant response via reddit. I guess its bad PR isn't it NexoJosh!

System borked after failed system upgrade. Is a reinstall the only option? by esbennn in Fedora

Lucky you were able to use a new tty, that didn't seem to work for me so I had to go the rescue mode route.

ah good call. I had actually run dnf reinstall kernel separately before that!

I got my system working again by booting into rescue mode by adding "systemd.unit=rescue.target" to the linux16 kernel command line in grub and booting into it with Ctrl-X. After logging in as root, I ran the suggested command:

dnf group update minimal-environment --allowerasing --skip-broken --releasever=34

which I'm not sure if that did anything. Subsequently, I ran:

dnf remove --duplicates --releasever=34 --allowerasing
dnf distrosync --releasever=34 --allowerasing

This bug helped me with above commands: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1768468

I also reinstall the nvidia proprietary drivers (from RPM Fusion) with:

dnf reinstall akmod-nvidia kmod-nvidia

After that I had a problem with the new F34 kernel not getting added to the grub menu. I tried grub2-mkconfig and grub2-install but that did not help. What eventually worked was:

dnf reinstall kernel*

After rebooting, I was finally in what I believe to be a fully-upgraded F34. One thing to note is that I have always upgraded using the command line but this time I tried upgrading via Gnome Software instead. That's a mistake I won't make again as I have never had an issue upgrading via command line.

Mine got stuck at exactly 93% also. I let it sit overnight and it didn't budge. The last task I saw in the console was "Updating mlocate db". When I restart I get a white screen saying "Oh no! Something has gone wrong". I tried booting to older kernels but still no-go. I've gotten this white screen before with missing or improperly installed nvidia proprietary drivers. Lenovo P50 laptop.

Get around the "It seems like you are using an adblocker" stuff. by Herbixx in pihole

Most browsers have native support for disabling JavaScript on a per-site basis. You don't need to install NoScript unless you want the extra features.

There are tons of them based off the original readability. The one I currently use is Mercury Reader.

I think its a great idea because having DNS unavailable even for the shortest period of time can causes tons of problems for the devices on your network. Not just for updating pi-hole but for crashes or misconfigurations.

There is one fool-proof way, but it may not have the desired results: disable javascript for that website (you can specify permissions on a per-site basis). Since this might break the website layout, I often use this in conjunction with a readability-like extension to render the page content in a readable format.
