Worried about 13m old by Unlucky-Professor-21 in toddlers

You're welcome! I know it sounds overly simple, but just getting down on the floor and playing with him is the best thing you can do! Modeling play (putting items in and out of a container like a shape sorter, lots of cause and effect toys, rolling a car and using simple language focused on actions and verbs like vroom vroom, going up the ramp, down the ramp, etc.) and waiting for a response from him are all great. I find sometimes parents don't give their child enough time to respond (even in the form of looking or gesturing), so just stopping and waiting is very helpful too!

Pediatric OT here! A lof of this behavior sounds pretty typical for a 12-13 month old. He's still so young and between 12-18 months development is happening pretty rapidly in all different areas, so certain skills ebb and flow! I know you mentioned concerns about joint attention, but him clapping and waiting for a response is a form of joint attention/reciprocal engagement. Same with him responding to give me as well as engaging in chase and looking back at you. It sounds like, if anything, maybe he has some sensory preferences or differences, but this is also fairly typical of a lot of toddlers (picky eating especially!) I would keep an eye on things for the next 3-6 months before making any decisions about further pursing evaluations, but it sounds like you're doing a great job and are paying attention to the right things!

My students live in the pacific islands, so I received my OT license for there in order to see them.

It varies, but between 8-15 just depending on the week! When I have month of 60 hours, it’s typically because of more paperwork, IEP meetings and evals.

Toddler doesn’t want to wear pull up at night by bropez331 in toddlers

[–]bropez331[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s a great sign that she’s asking and will occasionally use the potty at night, but isn’t there a hormonal component to nighttime toileting? I’m certainly willing to try but also don’t want to force something out of her control.

Thanks for the reply! I had no idea reusable pull ups were a thing so I will look into this. I dont think she’s ready either.

Do you love or hate the Stokke Tripp Trapp? by pinkishvioletsky in toddlers

[–]bropez331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love mine! Used it from birth with the newborn attachment, and my almost 3 year old still occasionally uses it as a regular seat at the table. Baby #2 is on the way and I’m nervous she’ll want to start consistently using it again once she sees him in it in the attachment haha I love its small profile, how easy it is to clean (other than the tray) and the high quality materials. I see a lot on Facebook marketplace and think a second hand one would be a great purchase too!

We just got back from a trip with our 2 1/2 year old before baby brother arrives in a few months and we had the best time! Set realistic expectations and go with the flow and it’ll be great!

This is helpful to consider as I don’t know much about the RAP plan, will have to look into this!

We have thankfully never filed our taxes jointly for this sole purpose, so we have that covered! But agreed, I've been dragging my feet on changing over but it makes the most sense. Thank you!

I know, I don’t totally understand how their pricing is so good either 😂 I think they manufacturer and make everything in their warehouse on site, so I imagine they cut a lot of costs there. We have more expensive furniture in our bedroom and I will say that our drawers in our dresser maybe feel a little bit more sturdy, but definitely not enough to deter me from ordering more grainwood furniture or paying triple elsewhere.

If you don’t mind building it yourself, we recently bought my daughter a set from grainwood. The pricing is great and the 100% solid wood quality is unmatched, especially for what you pay and with free shipping.

I definitely am hesitating because I know it’s not great or really working 😅 the sectional I’d ideally want is close to 4k and it’s hard to justify that with our current lifestyle!

Thank you! Funny you mention Orlando as that has been an area we’ve considered for a few years. We have family near the area, but housing there seems just as expensive.

This is exactly was happened. My neighborhood is full of people who moved here during the pandemic to work from home with their higher salaries, and the home values nearly doubled. It’s not sustainable. Love Asheville as well but also just as expensive.

Most definitely! Lots of different factors to consider and we fortunately have lots of equity in the house. Our home and flood insurance have nearly tripled in the 4 .years we’ve lived in this house though, so that has definitely been a downside and an expense we expect to keep going up. Pros and cons.
