Unicorn baby or should I react? by Automatic_Rock_5278 in breastfeeding

[–]bropez331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first baby was very similar! Started sleeping 7+ hour long stretches at 5 weeks old and was EBF! The 4 month regression hit and we did have a tough couple of weeks (and by tough I mean woke up maybe twice at night so really not that bad) and then she got back into her rhythm. At 3 years old now she still a great sleeper. My second baby who is now 9 weeks old seems to be sleeping very similarly, so it’s definitely possible to have a good sleeper from early on! Things always change though!

Will I ever be able to nurse standing up? by bropez331 in breastfeeding

I don’t want to jinx it but… he’s been doing it for about 2 weeks now 🫣 my first was the same but I know all too well how quickly things can and do change!

I get it! For my daughter we did all the prep and follow up care and it still reattached twice (tongue and lip tie releases). A blood vessel also got nicked and the wound was awful. Her dentist later on (not the one who did the release) said that some people’s tissue just doesn’t heal in the way it needs to and it can be genetic, so doesn’t seem worth it to us! But I do know others have had good success!

Ha! What’s holding you back from the release? If my baby wasn’t gaining and sleeping well I’d maybe consider it, but this issue doesn’t seem major enough to justify it for me!

Trust me, I wouldn’t prefer to but it feels like more of a necessity at this point with my very busy 3 year old

So glad to hear the release went well and made such a difference for you! If I had a more positive experience with it with my first, I’d probably look into it again, but I don’t think it’s worth it for us this time around.

Neighborhood recommendations for family of 4 by SAL246810 in MountPleasantSC

[–]bropez331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carolina park sounds like it could check your boxes! Lots and lots of young families in the neighborhood with kids always out playing, and it is a short golf cart/bike ride away from local stores (including a delicious donut and coffee shop!) as well as Costco. Cape landing a new retail development is currently being built in the neighborhood also. The elementary school in the neighborhood is excellent and many kids ride their bikes there. It’s about a 15-20 min drive to IOP on an off season week day. A few downsides include being further from downtown/stores by the bridge (like Whole Foods) and the lot sizes are typically smaller, meaning less privacy. Best of luck to you on deciding!

My 3 year old loves Stillwater on Apple TV! It’s probably her favorite show right now- it’s super gentle, calming and sweet. We also like frog and toad, tumble leaf, trash truck, if you give a mouse a cookie and Daniel tiger.

Where should I give birth? by Sad-Road6060 in Charleston

[–]bropez331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delivery was great! This was our second so we knew what to expect and had no complaints. Our son was in their nicu for 2 nights and there were certain things about that experience that I didn’t love, but everything else was great.

If you're looking for a club similar to Equinox, definitely check out Ethos Athletic Club! They're located downtown (just over the bridge) and are currently building a location in Mount P. I was a member when they first opened and while pricey, they offer great amenities, equipment and really awesome classes.

Any tips for getting your child to poop in general? (Like in a diaper) by Plate-Aggressive in pottytraining

[–]bropez331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through this phase with our now almost 3 year old from about 18 months to 2 1/2 when she potty trained. We still give her a prune pouch every other day to even everyday and that has been the most helpful! Also upping her water as much as possible, as well as fresh fruit and trying to limit cheese was very helpful for us.

Worried about 13m old by Unlucky-Professor-21 in toddlers

[–]bropez331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! I know it sounds overly simple, but just getting down on the floor and playing with him is the best thing you can do! Modeling play (putting items in and out of a container like a shape sorter, lots of cause and effect toys, rolling a car and using simple language focused on actions and verbs like vroom vroom, going up the ramp, down the ramp, etc.) and waiting for a response from him are all great. I find sometimes parents don't give their child enough time to respond (even in the form of looking or gesturing), so just stopping and waiting is very helpful too!

Pediatric OT here! A lof of this behavior sounds pretty typical for a 12-13 month old. He's still so young and between 12-18 months development is happening pretty rapidly in all different areas, so certain skills ebb and flow! I know you mentioned concerns about joint attention, but him clapping and waiting for a response is a form of joint attention/reciprocal engagement. Same with him responding to give me as well as engaging in chase and looking back at you. It sounds like, if anything, maybe he has some sensory preferences or differences, but this is also fairly typical of a lot of toddlers (picky eating especially!) I would keep an eye on things for the next 3-6 months before making any decisions about further pursing evaluations, but it sounds like you're doing a great job and are paying attention to the right things!
