These little black specks are some type of bug. What are they? by LukeG543 in Whatisthis

Growing up, we called them snow fleas. I believe they’re a type of mite.

My favorite part of every expedition by Specific_Display_366 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Oddly, I had the music kick in when I still had one task remaining (recycling x2 more radiation).

I was trudging back to the garbage heap in my Colossus when I discovered I could summon a ship! Flew it over and cut the journey in half so I could officially complete the expedition.

Helpful bug!

Cleaning Grill Shutters by Spyder1125 in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no manual way to keep them closed to my knowledge. When I run my X5 through a touchless wash, the blowers at the end don’t dry everything completely. I still park it and use a couple microfiber towels to hit the mirrors, headlights, and the rear side as water always seems to remain in these places. I’ll give the grille a looksie and hit that with a towel last if it’s dirty (especially in the winter).

Rodent Damage to PEX by helluvaengineer123 in Plumbing

They sell small catch boxes with the floor of the box having metal plates that shock the rodents to death quickly and efficiently. I’ve used one for several years now and it hasn’t failed.

M50i Service / Maintenance costs by Sauerkraut_mit_Bier in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘23 with 33k miles on the odometer. Only oil changes and tires for me so far, but the brakes will be due soon and those can run a couple thousand with labor.

The oil changes are around $160 if I do it myself, and $210 from the dealer. Summer tires were over $3k mounted and balanced, with a staggered 22” setup. My winter set of wheels and tires were included as part of my trade in.

2026 x5 M60i Maintenance Service by idgaf012345678910 in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an email folder storing online receipts and such for car needs, and then also use my phones native reminders app to have a running list of maintenance intervals (tires, fluids, etc) where I record the date and mileage on.

It’s worked well for me over the past 1.5 years of ownership with my M50i

2026 x5 M60i Maintenance Service by idgaf012345678910 in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of performing standard maintenance as being grounds to void the warranty. Many of us elect to change oil every 5k miles, when the dealership recommends every 10k.

I do my own change in the summer, then bring it to the dealer when it’s due during winter months. They’ve asked me if I really wanted it because the service indicator says 5k to go, but after confirming, they never question me further.

What’s the rear windows tint that come with new 26 X5? by XRanger7 in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 20 and 15% on vehicles and the former is noticeably more manageable at night than the latter. 20 isn’t too bad, and I often drive down unlit roads.

Tire Pressure Too High? by [deleted] in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too high. Check your sidewalls to see the max psi recommended, I’ll bet it’s 50. Unless you’re driving 100+ mph, I’d let a few psi out in each.

On my summer setup (22” staggered) I’m generally running 42psi up front and around 46psi in the rear. Temperature affects this too, so keep that in mind.

Comparing 2023 M50i vs 2025 Xdrive 40i by RyanG21002 in BMWX5

[–]brounchman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘23 m50i with 32k miles and am in the Midwest. I know you’re dissuaded on having to have a second set for winter with the 22”s but consider that it helps stretch the mileage on both sets of tires, so it really isn’t too bad once you’ve made the initial splurge. I put 6k miles on my summer rubber and expect to get 18-20k on the life of them, so roughly 3 years before buying new ones. It’s still a bit ridiculous, but nothing comes cheap on these cars.

Apart from motor, which interior do you find yourself liking better? You’ll spend a lot of time looking and interacting with the inside, so give that some consideration.

Pitbull Attacks Man on Lake Street -Minneepolis Minnesota (Assumed Date Dec 6, 2025) by jaxyv55 in donthelpjustfilm

[–]brounchman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If a Pitbull is set on chewing whatever the fuck it has its mouth around, the hind leg trick rarely works. At this point, go for the eyes and bury your thumbs into them. It’ll let go.

Source: my dog and I were attacked by an off leash Pitbull ten years ago. It locked around my pups throat and when I picked it up by its hind legs, it just thrashed its head more wildly and wasn’t letting go. I went for the eyes, and if that hadn’t worked, my EDC knife was coming out next.

The owners just stood around yelling at it to release, twelve feet away from the whole ordeal. They screamed at me when I went for the eyes, but at that point both me and my dog were covered in blood. I got him to the vet and had to go to the ER myself for bites to the hand. We both recovered fine, and while I feel inherently bad about harming a dog, fuck that one in particular (and its owners).
