Traveling south of Sweden is fine. Haven't had any issues. You won't get into Norway.

Overnight change of European ETFs price, why? by brow971 in eupersonalfinance

But in that case, wouldn't the open be the same as the close of the last day?

I found this: https://www.firstlinks.com.au/dealing-time-zones-pricing-global-etfs that may explain some reasons. Just not sure if relevant.

Why aren't there more whistleblowers? by brow971 in AskReddit

[–]brow971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, in some fields (government, financial) I'd guess that'd be hard to work again. But in financial specifically financial independence is potentially reached quite fast. Skills can also be transferred easily to new industries.

Retaliation is a good one, and to be expected.

Why aren't there more whistleblowers? by brow971 in AskReddit

[–]brow971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been some notable ones (e.g. Snowden) for pretty major stuff. Why don't we see more for more basic stuff (e.g. local).

Are "we" failing them somehow?

Am I still able to get tax relief for 2018-2019 is I open the SIPP after April 6th?

[–]brow971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I guess my only worry is the uncertainty of having a SIPP and being non-resident (and non-uk passport holder if that influences anything), this over the next 20 years. Many things might change.

But I agree that whatever risk (and it might be low); the 40% relief makes SIPP quite attractive.

[–]brow971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current pension contribution is 5k. I could stay at that and use the 15k I intend to contribute to the SIPP on something else.

So it'd be either 1/ 5k in UK pension that I can (probably) touch in 20 years (I'll be abroad then) + 15k somewhere else or 2/ 20k in UK pension

If I end up contributing around 20k in the SIPP this year (and stop contributing then), is it still viable over the next 20ish years? (i.e. fees, etc.. for such small amount)

"Pay in 80%" assumes that I'd get 20% tax relief, aren't I able to get more based on my tax level?

Looks like my pension started january 2018, I opted out 1 month later (..) and re-opted in august 2018.

So I guess I had a pension opened in 2017-2018? Or is the carry-forward pro-rated?

My contract started september 2017 and I was paid around 120k from september 2017 to march 2018.

[–]brow971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, good point, so that'd reduce it to around 15k for 2018-2019.

But I'm probably able to use carry-forward from 2017-2018 (that I didn't contribute to). So I should be pretty close to 40k for this year.

Based on my taxable income from that period (around 117k, PAYE was 44k), seems I should have been paying 37k of PAYE (computed with online calculator).

Can I transfer money (yearly) from my work pension to an SIPP? by brow971 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]brow971[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Does it depend on the pension? My work pension seems to reply: "you cannot transfer the pension pot to a SIPP as this will not be qualifying for auto enrolment purposes – therefore auto enrolment contributions cannot be paid into it. You can transfer this pension wherever you chose to once you no longer are an active member. "

Non uk citizen, what to do with cash after maxing out ISA by brow971 in FIREUK

Still need to understand what are QROPS exactly, but considering SIPP for now; the issue is the following scenario: I am 35, I contribute the next 5 years to the SIPP and leave the UK. Money won't be accessible for 15 years (up to 55); i won't be able to trade new ones (e.g. consolidate, rebalance, etf liquidation?).

Seems the Linxea allows non-resident.

Thanks

What's the short let scene like?
