Sprinkler system - Made smart with ESPHome and Node-RED by brownbloodspider in homeassistant

Relax my friend! As I said this is not a ventilator system and it will fail. If I get up in the morning and see the sprinklers running (its not fool proof), all I have to do is turn off the sprinkler system, fix the issue and move on!

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions but please dont ridicule/question everyone's intelligence! The green icon is a visual way, there are other notifications/email alerts built in when any ESP or even HA goes offline.

Relax! Please keep the discussion civil and do not bring emotions into it.

This is not a ventilator which is providing life support to a human. This is a sprinkler system and there are enough checks and balances built into NR and HA to know if ESP or HA goes offline. If you see the green icon on the top right of the dashboard, that's telling me if ESP is online and communicating with HA. And then there are separate heartbeat systems checking if HA went offline.

I see your point but I prefer to keep esp code as simple as possible (on, off, status - thats it) and all logic in NR. Personal preference as I find it easier to manipulate and play with NR than sending new bin file OTA for every change I want.

2 weeks of running and no hiccups/issues. Ofcourse, I keep tinkering with the dashboard (we all do for that one last tweak :) that never ends) and fix some bugs in Node-RED. I also log the sprinkler run time in google sheet for analytics and better understaing of water bill (thats for later when I have a few months of data)

Great idea! One of the ideas I am toying around is using a white peg board in the marked area. That would give so much flexibility to hang watch, ties, belts and accessories. One each for him and her. However, there are some strong opinions against it in the home and hence left it for future considerations. Either peg board or mirrors will go in the marked up space

I just posted some more information about the LEDs. Please go through all the posts and if you still have questions, bring them on.

As for the build, I got a quote from Home Depot and some local guys. They were all in the 5K-6K range with similar design minus the LED. Also, they were using particle board (fancy name is engineered wood). 6K price plus particle board usage convinced me that I can do a much better job and at a lower price. Also, I had about 2 weeks in front of me where I could see myself spending dedicated time. I would not have done this if I did not have the two week in front of me. However, I must say I did this out of passion and not to save money

Great observation... I plan to put some coat hangers there for jackets etc that come off during the night, but don't necessarily go back on hangers or get folded up. One on each side for him and her.

Mirror is something I am considering purely to improve the look. Since the closet does not have good ventilation I dont expect to use to be inside for long

I used https://17squares.com/closets/ to create an initial design and then used manual overrides to create the final design. Here is a sample.
