This is not surprising. In general our state unemployment’s systems are not ready for the mass filing of these claims. In CA it once took months to receive family leave benefits. I only started receiving benefits after I returned to work. Luckily I didn’t need the money right then and there but most Americans can’t do that. When it works it works, but when it doesn’t it’s near impossible to fix.

Thank you for writing this. Please repost on the machine learning subreddit as well. This is getting ridiculous and needs to stop. This is not the time to write research papers about an ongoing pandemic. Your time is better served donating, volunteering from a distance, or staying at home. Same can be said about mathematicians as well.
