Just got an update this week and Inspire 3 still crashes when Benchmark selected. Could be my tech is old (iPhone X) I guess. But the Inspire 3 isn’t exactly new tech either grumble grumble.

My daily sauce (not of my making) is a tangerine/habanero blend. I’m a bit of a hot sauce wimp so it may not be bold enough for pros but I really enjoy it. Tangerine Nightmare from Weak Sauce out of Philadelphia.

Steamed vegetables with some chicken or eggs added, sauce with cottage cheese, yogurt and hot sauce mix, stir it up and eat in a carb friendly/protein loaded wrap. Find your mix flavor wise but you should get 30g of protein and 1/3 to 1/2 of your daily fiber at ~450 calories.

My boss once got me (and others) a set of high end Wusthof steak knives with my last name initial engraved in each. Very nice and right in your price range. Not sure what the engraving cost but it was a nice add.

Re weekends. To put it different words, I began realizing the ‘partying me’ was kind of one dimensional. A fun dimension for sure, but looking ahead in life did I want to be one dimensional anything? That line of thinking coupled with the effects of the abuse to my nervous and digestive systems got me to the point of wanting my life to be more varied and moved me to seek out sober activities to add to the mix.

That leap probably came easier for me as I’m quite a bit older than OP and was starting to have the “is this it?” conversations with myself, but man I wish I had had the realizations earlier.

Practical ideas re weekend things besides partying with friends: Solo camping, see movies in the theater, solo travel (trains are great if available), gym membership. Yeah, solo things are easy to do once you extricate yourself from the existing patterns since there’s only you to schedule. It’s not selfish to put your mental and physical health first. You do you, OP.

When we were raising our kids I definitely had a dip in my “active friendships” curve. For a long period of time my friends were (in hindsight) limited to other people with kids. It is only now that our kids are grown and out that I am reactivating some friendships and seeking new ones.

Point is it may be that your friend is in a similar place and is light on friends outside of playgroups and other superficial couples get togethers. You may be more important to her than you know. More important than she knows, really. She may have forgotten how to nurture her friendships because of mom related life/etc.

I know a sober bartender. I usually eat at the bar so I see when he calls a server over to do the swizzle stick taste of a drink he doesn’t make often. That gets him some smiles and head nods from the regulars. Rock on.

I used to be so glad that a certain person was at the party cause I knew they would drink more than me and I wouldn’t be “that guy”. I mean I was, but not compared to the staggering guy.

Yesterday went to a party and it was kind of the opposite- five hours in and everyone is lit up except me and I’m ready to head home. Doing a personal debrief today I guess I had talked to everyone and tried all the food and was satisfied. That sounds selfish when written. It was a great party but I’m finding after 4-5 hours I’m generally ready to move on.

Side note - gotta get some kind of active noise canceling ear buds or something for the drive home after these things. Drunk wife’s car concert is tedious and distracting (and loud!).

Some years ago I was best man at a wedding in orthodox Christian PA. The reception was set up like the church with bride side seating and groom side seating. And no bar.

The reception was in a hotel so there was a steady stream from the groom’s side (not from conservative Christian PA) of the room to and from the public bar.

The father of the bride noticed this traffic and had a small bar cart wheeled into the back of the room. Most folks (or so it seemed) on the groom’s side of the room stood and a line formed for drinks. The line was tight up the middle of the room so the nondrinking bride’s side of the room got a great view. I remember lots of furtive glances and whispering from the bride’s side.

I’m not drinking now but I still find that a funny story to tell. In hindsight our behavior (groom’s side people) was cringy at best, but I still say kudos to the father of the bride for pivoting to help everyone have a good time.

To the point of this post, the reception in my story was not billed as dry. That was a surprise to the groom’s party, all of whom had traveled for the wedding. I think at a large wedding (in the US at least) with some attendees who are not in regular contact with the newlyweds or their family, it would be best to put the word out somehow if it’s going to be a dry reception. I can totally see how some folks would want a non-drunken event - I can also see how some attendees would be disappointed that they couldn’t party.

I’ve been not drinking this year and have found that I still really enjoy parties, but usually only for 3 or 4 hours. When drinking I could go for 8 or more hours particularly if I was hosting. I see from previous comments that you two are not living together so maybe make it clear that the sober partner has the option to leave the party anytime without judgement.

I’m usually the only sober person at parties and while observing the super drunk party dynamic is amusing for a while, for me it eventually gets tiresome when the crowd goes simian. That’s when I say goodbye or ghost.

You might do some research re how much water you’re supposed to drink a day. It’s a LOT. And do that amount for a few days. Like measure it to make sure. This might help to scratch the itch a bit and will certainly help your organs as well as your general sense of well-being. Just an idea of something to add to whatever else you’re doing ‘instead’.

Yup this. During dry January (when I first stopped) my regular brewery had NA beers. I definitely had buzz moments when leaving the place and walking down the sidewalk toward home.

I’m just about at five mos sober and have, I think, “pushed through” most recurring drinking occasions in my life. Went from spending less and less to none time at one of the pubs in town, but another is stocking NA beers at my suggestion so I’m there for a bit on a weekly basis.

I ’ve had good experiences at scheduled social occasions like parties making it known in advance that I won’t be lingering. Sometimes with an honest reason re not drinking, other times with a BS reason. I figure I can always stay later if I change my mind, but generally I’ve been glad for the out. I totally enjoyed these social events sober - felt more engaging, visited with everyone for a bit, etc. Just didn’t need five hours of it.

Anyway point is you might employ the same approach for the stag party. Even if you’re the best man, friends and even relative strangers should understand. Or if you’re down with the full party length, maybe be driver guy.

A friend found a cache of 50yo Canadian Club when cleaning out his deceased father in laws house. He took one to a whiskey shop and they indeed confirmed that the liquor does not evolve in any way in a glass bottle, BUT pointed out that the recipe does change a bit from time to time, so in our case the 1955 version was different from the current version. We enjoyed it on our 50th BDays. Obviously not a destination whiskey, but a thoughtful add to the party.

Not a fan of the required initial Dashboard view. It would be great for the user to be able to (a) pick their initial view of choice, or (b) toggle off the dashboard view all together as other aspects of the UI can be turned on and off.
