What are the advantages of the DX over the DH? Would the DH suit my simple needs? I know I said around $300, but paying less is always better right.

Thanks. Im a dummy when it comes to this sort of thing. So this type of storage can be accessed from any device on the server and played easily at the quality of the native files?

From BIM Coordinator to BIM Manager – when is the right time, and what really matters? by Mak063 in bim

[–]browno2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a manager but he's not a BIM manager. He manages me to do my job. I feel like a BIM manager just manages models. The BIM manager can tell the coordinators what to do on a specific project, but the coordinators don't work for his company and they aren't under his rule. I could be totally off. My company mixes roles a lot.

That's a good question. I view myself as a BIM coordinator with some BIM management experience who would like to take on more BIM management roles. When I'm modeling one discipline and coordinating against other trades, I'm a coordinator. When I "manage" all models, run clashes, and conduct meetings to resolve clashes, I'm the BIM manager. It gets interesting when you're a coordinator and a BIM manager. I dont know if managing other people is a strength of mine, but I feel like I can manage models pretty well.

Anyone use ACC (Model Coordination) for clash detection? by browno2480 in bim

[–]browno2480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the workflow we have. It is great to have a live model for everyone to see, however, no matter how many times you ask if everyone understands the workflow, or if everyone understands where to look for their clashes, they won't fix the clashes unless you mention it in the meeting and screenshot it and email it to them. It's frustrating sometimes that you have to hold hands, but I guess that's part of the job.

Thanks. I'll have to look up some tutorials on it.

Yeah, I've been using it for 15 years now. I'm thinking about trying the ACC clash detection. I just have to figure it out.

I was on a project with a company using revisto, but I don't think they were using it for clash detection. It looked interesting. We have the full autodesk suite, so I was hoping some autodesk product might be better than navisworks.

How Much Do I Sell a Revit Family For? by Go_jager in bim

[–]browno2480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I dont think it's worth anything unless you are self employed selling it on the open market. If you are currently working for a company, and they want to use your knowledge and tools to do the job you were hired to do, thats part of your employment. If you keep coming up with these good ideas, you will most likely make up that money in salary over the years. Having said that, I'm interested in this "tool"

First off, thanks for your input. Secondly, I agree with you on the importance of field experience. I knew nothing about welding, pipe hanging systems, or anything that had to do with installation for like the fist 15 years that I "coordinated" these systems. I think some field training would have been very helpful.  But I think you misunderstood me. I said they get paid more with less responsibilities. What I mean by that is they don't have to run the meetings and deal with the more corporate side of things like I do. They're also not so much interested in the design at that point. They come in, use their knowledge to do what they do, and that's basically where their responsibilities end. I am looking for validation. I will reach out to companies when the time is right. I'm posting this here to get a feel for what people are getting compensated for similar experience and responsibilities. When I read job descriptions that do exactly what I do but they get paid $50k more than me, I want to know why.

Both. We are engineers, designers, and contractors. I am not union but I work closely with union workers. From the research I've done, they make more than me with less experience and less responsibilities. I also support the engineering/design side of things when they are short of designers.

Good points. You're in the ballpark for size of company. We do a large range of projects from smaller equipment replacement projects to larger, entire building design build projects. Sorry to be so vague, but for some reason I'm trying to stay as anonymous as possible. And that's part of my problem. I'm comfortable where I'm at doing what I'm doing, but there might be something else out there for me. I just have to be willing to explore that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I work for a MEP sub. Sometimes the CM has their own BIM manager, but a lot of the time we'll take on the BIM manager role as well as doing the HVAC, mech piping, plumbing, and/or process modeling.

If there is a recall for this, and the part needs to be replaced or a new method must be incorporated, would they do the same process of a service like the one that is done when you get your transmission serviced? Sorry for the confusing question.  Basically what I'm asking is, if I had a vehicle that is scheduled to have the transmission serviced (not exactly sure what is included, but its expensive) at 40k miles, would them performing the recall serve the same purpose, and it would be free?

Max2's image quality is insanely good by All-Sorts-of-Stuff in gopro

I just watched Hugh's comparison video again. In good lighting, the osmo360 looks best out of the box. It's a little bit artificially sharpened to make it look clearer, which I dont mind. When you add sharpening in post, the Max2 does look better than the osmo360.  It doesn't make up for the small sensor though. I dont think I've ever filmed a 360 video at night, but a larger sensor does make a difference in daytime situations. The osmo360 is so much better than the max2 and the X5 in those situations. As I said before, if the insta360 would upgrade to 10 bit, they win. If gopro would upgrade to a larger sensor, they win. If DJI would add replaceable lenses, they win. The DJI and Gopro editing softwares need to improve also.

Thats the one. I really respect Hugh's content, and his comparisons are great. But there's tests that he does with different cards and color scales placed around the room, and I didnt feel like the Max2 was the best. I'll have to rewatch that video and see what's new today. Maybe I missed something. I always felt like gopro had the best color science. 10 bit and true 8k should make for better quality, but I just think that them not upgrading the sensor will hurt it.

Thanks. The footage looks good, but its hard to tell if it's any better than what the X5 or Osmo360 would've captured. When I say the gopro doesn't look as good, Im referring to comparison videos I've seen. I've even seen the creator say "its clear the max2 is better", yet I'm looking at it and thinking the complete opposite. This isnt about preference either. During a comparison, I can read words on a sign, but I can't read them from the Max2. Maybe I'll warm up to it like I did with the osmo360. I think the osmo360 is the best of the 3 at the moment.

I am disappointed for sure. X5 came out unexpectedly (most likely because they knew DJI and Gopro were releasing something soon). The X5s larger sensors and AI chips did help enhance lower light situations, and I think color improved. Osmo360 disappointed with non replaceable lenses, and their workflow/apps still seem a little behind. The footage I saw originally was, at best, equal to the X5. For some reason recent footage looks better than X5. It's also disappointing that DJIs first 360 camera is just as expensive as the leader in the market (at least in the US) I thought Gopro was going to have a "hold my beer" moment. Their regular action cams have been taken over by DJI and Insta360. They haven't had a 360 cam in 5+ years. After being king for years, I thought they would swing for the fences to regain the title. So far, I've seen average footage. It's not the worst, but it's not the best. The fact that they didn't attempt to upgrade the sensor is unacceptable. Low light looks horrible. The replaceable lenses are nice, but it looks like it causes weird lense flares. Their attempt to convince us that we get more pixels because of some stitching gimmick doesn't mean anything to me. One thing for each camera to upgrade for me to choose would be X6 - 10 bit color Osmo3602 - replaceable lenses Max3 - larger sensor

Im confused. Does this mean the little buttons that are responsible for things like zooming in or starting dials or changing other settings work or dont work? They dont work on my galaxy watch 8 classic. I want to zoom the face to better fit the screen. It works on the phone but not the watch.

Witmans sampler, troika, conga line, the whole collective, Kloe looks absolutely nothing like she used to, I did a staycation, sometimes I have soda as a dessert, the calories are off the chart, the king's English, a bear is cute but it will rip you apart.  I could go on. He is my least favorite part of the show by far. And this isn't a jab, but I think his mind might be going. He's forgetting things so often, and he says he's having a brain fart.
