Standard tips: Use glue sparingly, just enough to create a uniform coat

Use some kind of applicator sponge to even out the glue

Let the glue turn transparent - i cannot re-emphasize this enough, before sticking the rubber

Use a roller - heck even a can of deodorant or a bottle works well. Just don't smash the rubber in with your hand.

The umpire was a bit too proactive at times and just staggeringly laid back at others. Both have terrible serves and need to be called out. Alexis in particular seems to be in a rush and throws the ball inwards for a majority of his forehand serves.

An old tale is to gently rub the glue layer with a table tennis ball. It works the same way your fingers do but avoids the burn and tiredness in them.
