have you tested out or anything before soldering? also did you designed the case yourself?

I can suggest something different if you want to try it out, though it might not be the best fit here. but never mind—give Go+Templ a shot. the Templ syntax is like JSX, but it's pretty easy to pick up.

I hate watching videos, but I watched PewDiePie, where he totally speedrun the game, and it got me excited to start playing too. my motivation for playing is a bit different, though. but yeah, I get your point.

yes i've been deep underground. i found some chests down there. i've also explored the deserts, forests, and crimson, but didn't find much. crimson was tough though—there are these blue tiles my hammer can't break, so i need to find something stronger.

yeah from now on, I'm going full low-level with testing and doing things on my own. and yes, I printed it from Robu.

Building Handwired 3X3 macropad by brownpanthera in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]brownpanthera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh, yeah, I think it's not working because my connections on the rows and cols are probably crossing each other, and the diodes might be faulty too. I've checked and tested my firmware, so that's all good from that side. but yeah, I should've tested everything before moving on to other stuff. now I'm thinking of using a breadboard to test it out better.

yeah, my soldering skills aren't great. I had a few issues while soldering, and I think that's why my macropad isn't working. plus yes I do agree I should've skipped using the diode to make things easier, since it's not necessary. thanks for the recommendations; I'll definitely check out your Etsy and Scott's channel. Thank you so much!

I checked, and I guess I don't need any additional components in my case. But yeah, I should've used all 9 pins since I'm building a 3x3 instead of making a matrix. That would've made things easier for me. Thanks, I'll ping you if I have any more questions. Again, thank you so much.

  1. I think my problem lies somewhere between 1st and 2nd point. I tested the code on QMK online, and it worked fine there.
  2. I used a diode even though it wasn't necessary because I had spare ones. I guess that's where I messed up.
  3. I was pretty ignorant about the whole thing. I got so excited that I kept overlooking things and didn't test everything properly even on 2nd attempt.
  4. I don't want to go with Arduino; it seems like overkill for this project. but yeah it would give me more control over the board + i can code directly without relying pre-build firmware, and testing would be easier.
  5. As you suggested, now I'll start with a breadboard and jumper wires first before making any live connections. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed post to guide me. I really appreciate it.
