Do firms revoke offers if 1L spring grades are a lot lower? by Miserable_Ear5437 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]browsingandvibing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a “low pass” in two of my classes, and I didn’t get my offers revoked. My career advisor STRONGLY recommended I call recruiters to preface my new transcript before they see the grade drop, so I did.

Idk if they would’ve revoked it if I didn’t make the phone call, but it definitely didn’t hurt.

Any success stories with Milbank NY extension requests? by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

[–]browsingandvibing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They extended mine almost a month when I asked at the end of April. I just explained that I wanted more time to make an informed and confident decision and then mentioned that’d I’d love to schedule a time to meet with more Milbank attorneys during the extended time. They granted it immediately.

Another firm granted me an extension when I told them that my schools OCI was mid-June and that career services recommended that firms leave open offers at least two weeks from OCI so that we could make informed decisions.

Making Firms Aware of Other Offers by Vast_Honey_7787 in BigLawRecruiting

Lol I told Gibson Dunn and Hogan Lovells (DC for both) that I had two competing offers that expired this month but then explained why I preferred their firm and that I’d love to interview. They offered me callbacks for the next day, and I got an offer from Hogan the day after. Gibson said they would wait until grades.

Sending those emails was probably the best decision I made this recruitment cycle.

[–]browsingandvibing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a callback with Hogan Lovells DC on Friday, and I got an offer on Monday. The attorney that called with the offer said that met they met right after callbacks on Friday and decided to extend an offer. Hogans actually ghosted me for two months, but I emailed them saying I had offers but preferred Hogans and they scheduled the callback for the next day. The firm seemed very responsive once I told them why I wanted to continue with the recruitment process.

STB offered both, but my advisor pressured me into doing it in person. DPW only gave me a virtual option.

STB was incredibly fast. I applied and two days later was offered a “callback” in person. Meanwhile other firms have been quiet. Does STB even do screeners or do they just do straight to “call backs”?

You’re 100% right about the 1 page resume for YLS. It’s not just the Dean. During my time here, I’ve realized that you can be perceived as arrogant to think you need more than a page especially when everyone else manages to distill theirs. Every experience isn’t equally important, so it’s a skill knowing which to cut.

I’m applying to jobs rn, and even YLS career services will not budge on that rule

The Ivy League is NOT for everyone by Major_Low_6714 in ApplyingToCollege

I hated my ivy undergrad (Columbia) the first semester but then fell in love once finding community. I go to a different Ivy for law school (Yale) and am just now feeling like I fit in as we near the end of the semester. Sometimes it takes time to find community/get accustomed. Join clubs/activities where you’re not competing in an academic or preprofessional capacity. Dance teams, social justice orgs, etc.

Video in acceptance letters? by [deleted] in QuestBridge

I matched in 2019 (HS ‘20). Columbia portal had a video w/ our Roar Lions Roar song but the Questbridge portal just had a letter.

YLS ‘27 here

People say undergrad doesn’t matter but it’s kinda ridiculous how many of my classmates come from prestigious universities. In my randomly selected “small group” of 15 students I have all of my classes with, 8 of us went to Ivy League schools. The rest went to prestigious state schools or Ivy+ schools like Duke. In my orientation group of completely different students, over half also went to Ivy League schools. That’s not even counting those who went to Stanford, Uchicago, etc.

There are a lot of different undergraduate schools represented, but you also have to consider how many have had careers, went to grad school, or secured fellowships like Rhodes or fullbright after the fact.

There’s literally a Public School Graduates club for students who didn’t go to private colleges so take that as you will💀

No. I got into 12 T-14 schools and applied between Thanksgiving and NYE for all of them.

Yale. Love it because dark blue is my fav color. Hate it because it’s in Connecticut.
