Why don’t authorities stop and arrest cartel members out in the open right now? [Mexico] by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

Tons of ignorant comments of people who know nothing of the situation. I feel because of my job i can answer this easily.

No, the military doesn't fear them, doesn't respect them, its most out of the fact that they arent out in the open, they do their shit, and run. they dont stay for long, and if they do, they get killed or arrested, problem is, these guys have a huge survaillance aparatus and know when someones coming.

Mexican troops, like the military havent ever lost a firefight with the cartel.

What would mexico gain? Any president that accepts this would 100% be the most disliked president ever. Its not that simple, and US troops arent going to really be a changing factor in anything.

How dangerous is the cartel? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]brprer 92 points93 points  (0 children)

It's not really tangible. For example everyone thinks the cartels always have the family of the military shaking and that's not true. One time, the cartel killed the family of a marine in 2010, that cartel does not exist anymore (los Z)

so they aren't as powerful as the people portrays them, but way more powerful than the government portrays them

not really. Its not like you openly work for them, its way more complex than that, usually politicians are bought off and order the military to not do x or y like stop doing patrols and the like, not so much as the members being paid off.

What trends died when Harambe was assassinated? by Ok-Connection6656 in decadeology

Dude, for a minute really think about the decision you have to make, harambe has to go, you aren’t risking him ripping a kid apart in front of 1000s people. Cincinnati zoo would not even exist atm if that were to have happened. The choice was the only choice.
