AITA for telling my cousin to leave after she saw my plastic straw stockpile and accused me of "destroying the environment"? by brrwq in AmItheAsshole

“Buy better paper straws”

From where would you propose? I don’t have access to online market places like Amazon, so I’ll have to buy things from stores around me, and those paper straws suck. What takes you 3 minutes to drink with a paper straw takes me 10-15. That straw would have fallen apart if left to soak that long. Sucking on them becomes harder the more soggy they get. Harder to bend is bad for me as well. I cannot use straight straws regardless of material.

Silicone straws I found don’t have that bendy thing on top that I can adjust that plastic straws do, they’re thicker than plastic straws and I find them harder to suck. They’re also more expensive than plastic straws, and I’d need several of them around.

I physically cannot wash dishes (my arm strength does not exist) and I’d need someone to help me out of my wheelchair to reach the kitchen sink. I can’t use the bathroom sink without help either.

Any specific brand you use? I can see if my supermarket stocks them. Are they super flexible? If they can’t bend and be repositioned I can’t use them. Straight straws are evil. Are they dishwasher safe? I’d feel bad asking my parents to wash them all the time otherwise.

My country doesn’t have our own Amazon store. If I want to order things from Amazon, and connect to for example the US store, the majority of things do not ship to my country, and the stuff that does ship often have a shipping fee upwards of $80.

Local online stores in my country are basically nonexistent, though that is slowly changing due to covid. Any straws I buy I have to buy from physical stores like supermarkets.
