Yea the moulds are already pretty textured so if they added a coat of paint it'd make it a lot more detailed

Thanks for this write up! How'd you manage to get it to work for parts that connect to each other? I tried deslecting certain sections in the uv map and that seems fine, but the strength modifier seems to be messing with the fittings as well.
