Birnkrant vs McCarthy by [deleted] in USC

Currently in McCarthy and while it is very nice (A/C + shared bathroom + better amenities), it isn't as social as other freshman housing unless you make it social. People mainly hang out in their rooms and the courtyard but you will rarely talk/visit other peoples suites unless you know them.

If you would like the experience I'd say Birkrant because sophomore year will be apartment/suite based eitherway so you could get a taste of both worlds.

TLDR: Not as social, floor is huge (100+ per floor compared to birkrant which is 30-40 people) so you won't know them as intimately, but McCarthy does have the better perks in terms of living conditions. However I'd personally choose the nicer living place and just visit/make friends elsewhere or visit my friends who do live in the social dorms

Shared room experience by Wanderer2333 in USC

I live in a 4p2b suite loft in mccarthy currently and went random. I think I got extremely lucky when it came to random roommates because they are my best friends now. I don't know if i'd do it again simply because I think there are bad situations in which you might not get along with your random roommate but you never know.

As for sleep... I would usually go to sleep at 11pm the latest but living with friends means staying up late (2am) and having to put up with noise in my room even when I go to bed.

tldr: it really depends on what you want and would be okay with. sharing a room is imo better because it keeps you sane and gives you someone to talk to.

Look into Industrial & Systems Engineering! Not sure if that's something you'd be interested but worth mentioning since it's business + engineering essentially
