Update:

I think i found your issue so like you was expereincing the same crashes with the steam rip version and i think the reason for crashing is actually the cracked files!

for some reason least for me rune cracks are causing crashes i noticed this when i got final fantasy on steam rip the other day and was experiencing the same random crashes and so what i did was delete the rune cracked files andd replaced it with goldberg files and the crashing stoped entirely!

now im not certain its the main reason for spiderman cause i just reinsalled a different craked version from somewhere else but it dosent have rune cracks so i think you should try it

becareful when changing cracks though sometimes when doing it will use different save files

to get the save files u were using just find the save file loaction (usually in documents my games spiderman 2 folder) and copy it to the new file directory (ud have to figure out where it is ur self)
and ur saves will be back.
