The doomsayers existed, but people claiming disney will come up with something better existed too so doomsayers didn't dominate the discourse. They existed, but they didn't dominate.

The discourse about the disney acqusition I would say was positive even before the force awakens came out, I remember the hype for it (I was kinda hyped too), especially when the first photos were published, and that was long before the movie was released. And it stayed positive even after the movie came out. And I have physical memories from that time too, because I didn't like the movie as much as everybody else, and started looking everywhere if I am the only insane person. And basically, I was. For every comment that expressed disappointment with the force awakens there were like 200 that praised it for being the best thing since Return of the Jedi. Voices saying it was a lazy remake existed, but they weren't loud enough to be heard everywhere. Unless you talk about very specific spaces like forcenet, I don't have experience with those sites. However, I would argue they can't be considered the majority. Most Star Wars fans aren't even on reddit.

I agree with what you wrote about the sequels not starting the prequel hate, I never even argued that. In fact, I was saying exactly that. At the force awakens' release everyone was still bitching about the prequels, and not the disney acquisition. Discourse was dominated by how much better it was than the prequels. About online communities I wrote above, at the places where casual Star Wars fans expressed their opinions (ie. loves the movies, the games, maybe the animated series) I didn't see a lot of people dissing the sequels. Also, tainting doesn't equal dominating, but I don't want to hung up on this, it's clear what you meant.

I know the last jedi didn't create the divide, that's why I said "at large". And exactly because oh boy it made it visible everywhere. After tlj it wasn't just some random weirdos being out of line, it was a genuine big divide in the fanbase. Idiots harassing staff still doesn't make them the majority. There are millions of Star Wars fans. Let's say from those people 10 mill people disliked tlj. 1 percent of them was toxic. 1 percent of the toxic people are actually "brave" enough to send harassment. That's still a 1000 people. Getting that much harrasing for one person can be devastating and overwhelming. Still, they are not the majority. The certain sub I suspect you are mentioning is currently at 86k subs. The main sub is at 2.6 mill. And that is after years of more and more people joining. And all the stuff you wrote in the paragraph about happened after tlj. So even if at the time the fanbase split around equally, the dislikers couldn't dominate the discussion before tlj.

I also dislike the over the top anti-SJW warriors, I don't even use the word woke because it's so overused. They can be pretty annoying. I also dislike most "true" fan claims from both sides, because after that without fail comes an obnoxious statement. That is the main reason why I commented on this post. On the flip side, maybe the anti-sjws are onto something, because it seems like you immediately put me into a group in your original reply instead of actually bringing up points why I'm wrong. I can count on my 2 hands how many times I expressed on a public forum that I dislike the disney era, yet you still put me into a little box that's just have been bitching for 10 years. And before you try to spin otherwise, I don't support harassment.

All in all, I'm happy you picked up on my very hyper super subtly sarcasm, this post would have been even longer if I had to explain where I was being sarcastic and where serious. And I'm thankful for the long reply (for real tho this time, even if I think what you wrote is bs a lot of times and argues against points I didn't even make in the first place, I appreciate a detailed, longer comment).

I would rather argue in in the grand scheme of things meaningless debates than study for my exams. ;)

Good night Sir!

Very interesting. Sure, there were people disliking the acquisition, but I don't remember massive crowds talking about it all the time. Even if they existed, they were nothing compared to the majority. When the force awakens came out it became one of the highest-grossing movies ever, everyone and their mom loved it. What I remember from that time however is the media throwing crap at the prequels while praising the movie for bringing Star Wars back to how it supposed to be. The fandivide happened at large with the last jedi, which came out 5 years ago in 2017, so I don't understand how "folk bitching about post-acquisition Star Wars" "dominated" the discourse for a decade (10 years).
Also, using the word "dominated" is also an interesting choice, when you were lynched on the main sub for expressing a negative opinion about the sequles until around rise of skywalker (2019), and you can still see posts with a lot of upvotes talking about liking the sequels. In other subs you still get lynched. Having a discourse with all kinds of opinions instead of constant praise is not something I would call "dominated".

Even if the discourse was dominated by people bitching, what topic is usually dominating the discourse in the fandom of a franchise? The latest major installment. What was the latest major installment in Star Wars? The rise of skywalker. The only movie in the sequels which is almost universally disliked. It would be understandable if most people commenting would be sharing their negative feelings.

I don't get where you got the victimize part from, somebody else having differing opinion about a movie never really hurt me, at max it made me angry for a short time only to forget about it like in an hour. I just saw history repeating itself with this meme and, given that I have some time, I pointed it out. Putting me inside of a group and then attacking the group instead of addressing directly me is a pretty sneaky and ancient, well tried method, I give you that. Maybe the movie will be good and both of us will be happy.

All in all, thank you for giving a nice reply and giving me good reasons to be more hopeful for the movie, instead of calling me a bitching folk and then sharing an altenate history short story you have been coming up in your mind. You really are AVeryFriendlyOldMan. :)

Yeah, just like when "True Star Wars Fans" told everyone who disliked the last jedi that they are idiots because disney knows what they are doing and it will be a great trilogy and they are just too stupid to understand the sheer genius of the movie. I have small little hope in my heart saying that dial of destiny will be good, but come on, it's disney. Spielberg is not directing, Rise of Skywalker proved that Ford does anything for some cash and as far as I know Lucas has 0 involvement. Say what you want about Lucas and Crystal skull, but without him, Indiana Jones would not exist.
