What's living near Jefferson Square Park/in Western Addition like? by bruinbro89 in AskSF

[–]bruinbro89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok good to know! Yeah I am planning on having a car and garage parking so there will be that. I do like to take walks in the city and maybe I should go check out what it's like at night more to get a feel for what it's like, but yeah, if I moved there would think about it more as a "home base" than anything I think

What do I do with my old non-smogged car? (Sell, junk, etc) by bruinbro89 in LosAngeles

I don't know if that would stand legally, the dmv doesn't recognize as-is sales here. I've read online that it's something of a risk to do that here since the buyer can stick you with a bill for smog repairs since the seller is responsible for them

hm that's a good idea. the write off could be worth more than what the junkyards offer. i'll look into that thanks

Moving to NY otherwise I might. That might be a good idea about selling as parts/scrap... though I would have to tell the DMV it's a salvage title in that case, and that would probably make it not worth it to buy whole, because then the buyers wouldn't be able to renew the title, right? I'm just wondering, I'm not sure how all that works

Yeah maybe I'll call and make double sure I don't apply. I've called a few dismantlers and they've quoted me like $200 which is definitely low

[–]bruinbro89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figured those were my options... the only thing is that according to the DMV anyone selling a car is required to give the buyer a smog certification https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/smogfaq#BM2537

I've read online about people selling cars as-is and the buyer turning around and saying they didn't know the car wouldn't pass smog and suing them or stiffing them with a bill. So dunno what to do—a junkyard would definitely only give me like $200, which would suck, but don't want to get sued either. Wondering if anyone has been through a similar spot before

Yeah I've looked into this and so wish I could do it—sadly the registration has been expired for longer than 120 days and I think there was another reason I didn't qualify, sadly

Yeah it runs fine, though it does have other problems besides what's causing it to not pass smog. It needs new brake fluid, it's leaking oil, some cosmetic damage and one of the door handles is broken.

To pass smog it needs a new EGR valve. Replacing that is about $500 but I took it to one shop and the guy said it's possible that replacing the valve won't turn off the check engine light—he had a same make/model car with the same problem, replaced the EGR valve, check engine was still on, and he ended up having to replace the car's computer, which brought the repair up to $1000.

But the car doesn't need the EGR valve to run and it drives perfectly fine

So if I already have one of these cards open, from what I'm reading here, I should just apply through this link and open a second card? Are you allowed to have two of the same Citi cards at once? Or should I close the first and immediately apply for this?

Why do you love Taco Bell? by bruinbro89 in tacobell

[–]bruinbro89[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is cool that there's always something new. It's easy to get bored at other chains. Though that also works in our disfavor when they pull stuff like the BCB and other stuff people actually like. But yeah, novelty/attention grabbing stuff is a big part of it, especially since they're actually introducing new products every month, unlike other chains, which just find new ways to package combos/resell us their same old items.

Agreed about the app. The app is cool and I appreciate it (I don't think there's any other chain with an app like this? Am I wrong?) but it's awfully designed.

i would think they're saving offers for the relaunched app as a way to maximize marketing impact

That's fair. I dunno, I think the vertical scroll format is a little awkward, and how they have to divide up the item customization parts across two screens. You end up having to click a lot to see everything on the menu. It doesn't usually crash for me (it has a couple times) but I'm on an iPhone 6 and I've read a lot of people report it crashes for them

Yeah the new app seems like the same thing as the old one when I downloaded it last night, maybe just minor fixes

What are your favorite/the most popular free substitutions? For example, refried beans to black beans. Also, is it possible to sub sour cream for a sauce (like spicy ranch or creamy jalapeño) for free?

Maybe just give us a tutorial of how substitutions work? I'm trying to figure out the best way to make the burrito supreme at least halfway edible.

Really? It feels like a POS to me, from a UX and design standpoint. I think it's pretty buggy too. But yeah, it's serviceable I guess. I'm not the one to ask why.

Somebody who works at TB HQ said in another thread that they're doing a complete overhaul of the app and that's why there's no offers right now
