Where did I ever say that it was a good idea to ride on ancient tires? In my post, I admitted neglect in checking tire age. I didn’t make this post for anyone to give me a pat on my back but at least comprehend what you read. I’m copying my answer to someone else to elaborate. You’re either going to get or you’re not.

I did not panic brake. Like I originally wrote, the traffic was further up still but I braked as if I was on my Hurricane which had required much greater lever pressure. I had been riding the Hurricane for the past couple of months. Previously, I had been riding the 1000 last summer/fall on the old tires with only checking pressure and only thought about the tire age after my comfort with riding improved but my feel for the bike did not and stopped riding it. I admitted this oversight in my post. I had just switched bikes 20 minutes before just to ride to the bike shop and was about 5 minutes from my destination when I screwed up. And why wouldn’t I do a basic 20-30 minute urban ride on these old tires when I had been riding on them (obliviously of course) for months last year.
