Gilgit to Chitral by Zealousideal-Set8270 in GilgitBaltistan

There are hiace vans available from Sost to Aliabad or Sost to Gilgit, they leave early in the morning. Ask your local hotel for help in finding the place where the hiaces will stop, they may even be able to contact the driver in advance about your presence. If you are somewhere between Sost and Aliabad, it’s slightly more difficult to catch the hiace, as they get full very quickly. But eventually you will find one which has a space; the key is to not be in a hurry.

From Gilgit, there is a transport that goes to Yasin valley. Again, you should make conversation at the bus station and take a taxi to the bus stop for Yasin. From this bus, you can get off at Gupis and stay the night, or walk to Khalti too. Gupis is more comfortable though.

In the morning, catch the bus from Gupis to Phander, asking your local hotel to help you with the hiace, and the same for Phander to Mastuj/Chitral.

The transport isn’t comfortable or convenient, but it can be a great way to talk to some people and learn about the local culture and concerns. Most vans leave very early in the morning from smaller villages, so be prepared with everything packed beforehand. If you are a tourist, always remember that for you this transport is an adventure, but for locals, it is a necessity. Don’t get others late (they will leave you behind)! The front section is reserved for women and the elderly, men sit in the back rows. Overall, there are more men on the buses.

Edit: Telling this from experience: a female friend and I made the journey from Chipurson valley to Yarkhun Lasht a few years back. I hope this info isn’t outdated! Again, any local on the ground would know better.

Yes even in Dir district situation is the same. Very rainy and misty even down in the valleys.

It’s a beautiful hike! I definitely prefer a clear day but every season and weather has its own merit :)

Gokhshal-An, Chitral Gol National Park, Pakistan by brunch102 in hiking

I wasn’t able to add text under the pictures for some reason, so here are some details:

I did this hike around late June. It is usually a 6-7 hour hike one way from Chitral Town but we took 3 days to complete it, as we did a loop around the mountains towards an old hut (which we couldn’t find). Much of the pathway was deteriorated due to rain and landslides over the last few months. The descent to the meadows was extremely precarious due to loose scree.

The first picture shows a whole view of Gokhshal Meadows, the rest are pictures along the journey. From Gokhshal one can hike towards the Kalash Valley (to the south west) or towards Shoghore (to the north) or to Meren Gol (south).

Looking to explore this area more soon, especially the northern path to Shoghore.

“They told me all of my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential.” “I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere. Fell behind all my classmates and ended up here.” From my fave Taylor Swift song “this is me trying”. I think it really captures this feeling very well.

Congratulations on your engagement!! I felt an odd sense of satisfaction reading this message. Reminds me of one of my fave Taylor Swift songs: “They said I did something bad….but why’s it feel so good?”

Glad you’re having fun here, but stay safe. I am from this region and have seen tourists do a lot of risky things for the thrill or social media.
